Memmory speed question for overclocking...

CPU = Q9550 - Stepping E0
MOBO = GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P LGA 775 Intel P45
RAM = OCZ Fatal1ty Edition 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) 5-4-4-18 timming.

Anyway, I want to over clock it...

The only reason I got that RAM was because it was on sale for 20 bucks.

Tho, I'm think of trying to over clock the chip to 3.2 on air. I don't really want to touch the VID this chip is an EO stepping I guess we'll see how it goes when I get all the parts.

My question is... Should I go for higher speed RAM? Like say this stuff?

G.Skill DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel? Will I see a big jump in performance with faster ram?

Does RAM really play a big part in overclocking?

Thanks a lot!

That RAM will work up to a CPU overclock of 3.4GHz on the Q9550 with a 1:1 ratio. You don't have to worry about getting faster RAM.

That was quick.... Thanks Martimus. Already got the chip and ram, just waiting on the MOBO. Maybe tomorrow.

No problem. Good luck with your expected overclock.

I just built a computer for my roommate on Saturday with a Q9550 and a ASUS P5Q Pro, but I didn't overclock it at all (Although I did install a Xigmatek S1283, so we shouldn't have too many problems if he decides he does want to overclock it.) It was actually the easiest build I have ever had. It is the first time I haven't had to deal with IDE cables, and that made the cable management portion pretty simple.

Just for reference, look at the specs in my sig. I run a C1 Q9550 at 3.6Ghz with 425Mhz FSB 1:1 memory for 850Mhz DDR. It's not high performance memory, not even as nice as what you have.
