Membership Mngmt and password protect software or programming

I am setting up a website that will charge a monthly fee to access information that will be password protected. I have looked at a few software applications(PlugnPay, iisprotect, account manager pro) to manage this type of business. Is anyone familiar with this software and if so would you recommend using the prebuilt software or would it be money well spent to find a programmer and have them set up the application?
