Well, if you don't they were these little notebook like devices with 10 inch black and white LCD's. That ran newton OS, had built in word processor, spread sheet, web browser, and could be dropped, lugged around whatever, and were instant on. Unforunately, I haven't seen em anywhere for under 500$(ridiculous price). So I was wondering, is there an equivalent to this out there somewhere? I would like it with a b/w screen(less battery life/cheaper) a keyboard, and for it to be a bit durable.

Just get a Palm/Visor and a keyboard :)
I loved those eMates...one of Mac's greatest inventions. My brother worked for a company that was developing bundled software for it and I got to play with one of the prototypes for a bit. You could also reorient the screen so that it read like a book. He said that the intention was to eventually issue them to grade school students and have digital textbooks instead of kids lugging around so many books. I almost bought one from a kid for $150, but that seemed to steep for a piece of dead tech 3 years ago....wish I had, now :)

I tried the visor+keyboard, not nearly as durable or as flexible(too small a screen).
