apoppin,

Look... I have no problem with dennilfloss. I was just startled when I saw a post by him and then started wondering about people who had been banned for lesser offences. It's not that I want him gone, it's that I'd like more people to get the same break.

dmcowen674, see above.

sounds reasonable ;)

Joe, because you are special, you had a mod grace your thread to basically confirm what i said.

More people CAN get the same break....each case has to be examined individually and the mods/admin has to agree [majority, i guess].

<<time must pass . . . they must ASK to be reinstated . . . 'take' the punnishment . . . be 'good' and support AT>>
i.e.
1. Take your punishment, as handed down.
2. Don't try and create a second account.
3. Apologize, when wrong.
4. Do not jump on an AnandTech bashing bandwagon, when other members do.
On some of the above criteria, some members could eventually be granted grace...but no promises. Nothing is cast in stone, and of course there is a concensus ruling, always.

:)

frankly i'm glad to see Denilfloss back . . . and would welcome other former banned members - as long as they don't continue to practice what got them banned.

LOL... until you pointed it out, I didn't even realize that a Mod had posted! I tend to just scroll to the bottom of threads to see responses.

As for dennilfloss, I never really had much direct contact with him and am not emotionally tied to his reinstatement, which I think I mentioned earlier.

As for me being "special"... not sure if that means that I should feel honored or that I have a seat reserved on the short bus! ;)

Hey Mod(s), I appreciate the time taken to respond. Perhaps there were others who were curious too, so maybe this answers the questions of others also. Thanks.

Joe

you really are missing the obvious today! :p

My 'special' comment came directly from the Mod quote:
Joe, very seldom will you see us explain our actions much beyond a mod note in a thread.
:D

special indeed!

and i deduced everything - as in my post - from simple observation of ATF in action over the years. ;)

that's why i stay here and why i like 'em so well
[and that they tolerate me]

LOL x2!

I was originally going to post this thread in the Forum Issues forum, but then decided that it would get more participation in the Off Topic forum, so that's where I posted it (IIRC). And now, I just came to the Forum Issues forum, and VOILA, there is the thread!

LOL... too funny (at least to me).

Is there some sort of protocol that is followed or are people reinstated with no rhyme or reason, which makes it look like favoritism to the membership at large?

I'm NOT saying that dennilfloss should not have been reinstated, I'm just trying to make sense of how these decisions are made.

Excellent. I've always wondered the same, and now we have an answer.

By the way, I would correct the mod quote grammar error, but I might get banned ;).

I bet they don't want to deal with a department of English majors for every post. :p

Yeah, I was thinking how much work it must be. So many posts to go through. I remember friday nights that were just plain hairy. Its a rather thankless job, I hope at least the kool-aid is good :)

Google nowheremom

Yup, thats someone we really need around here.

I can think of a handful of members around here who are way worse people and contribute much less. Try talking to dennil. He's a nice guy and a positive contributor, so long as you take his relationship stories with a grain of salt ;)

I think it's safe to assume three of AT's most notorious (LoKe, MacBaine & Frew) are perma-banned forever but I could be proved wrong around 2012.

What was Frew's big crime here again?

Registering about 30+ different accounts. and possibly some other infractions.

Of course it didn't help that he was encouraged from parties which shall remain anonymous ;)

that by itself - registering another account after being banned - is equivalent to a 'death sentance' here. ;)
:Q

:D

no resurrection either :p

I remember frew, but I must have been taking a vacation from the interwebs when all this happened, :p
