Mem won't run at spec'd timings

I have the memory listed in my sig and according to cpuz, my timings are 5-5-5-18 and I know the mem can run at 4-4-4-12. At least it is printed on the side of the chip with the voltage listed at 2.2V. The first prob is that I can't get the voltage in bios at 2.2V. Under manual settings, my only options near that voltage are 2.15V or 2.25V. I chose 2.15. I tried manually setting the mem timings to 4-4-4-12, but the system wouldn't boot, so I am back at default settings. My FSB is at 266. What else can I do to get the mem timings adjusted?

I have a P5B Deluxe & am pretty familiar with RAM on it.

What exact settings & specs are you running?

Overclock goal, or not at all?
What multiplier x what FSB?

What RAM?
Only 2x512 MB or 1024 MB Crucial as in your sig?

Your board (& mine) can be pretty picky about some things regarding RAM, hence all the questions.

I used to have it OC'd a little. i think around 3.1ghz. Yes, the mem in my sig is current. My fsb is at 266 with multi of 8, so at ~2.1ghz. I have 2 sticks of the mem in my sig, so 2gig total.

You're presently running stock?

What are all the timings set to?

I'd assume you are trying 4-4-4-12-6-42-10-10-10-11?

If not, make sure the subtimings are at least as loose as i list above; you can always tighten later if you like tweaking things.

From stock 266 FSB, you have DDR2-533 (1:1), DDR2-667 (4:5), & DDR2-800 (2:3) as reasonable choices.

I'd try 2.15 vDIMM @ DDR2-667 & run Memtest86+ (yes, get it & burn it to a bootable CD if you don't already have that).

Crucial hasn't been that great of late for reliability, which is why i'd say you need to try testing it.

If DDR2-667 4-4-4-12 is stable, maybe try increasing the FSB to 320 with the same ratio, which will hit DDR2-800 then (assuming you can get that far - do it gradually).

You can also try switching to the 2:3 ratio (DDR2-800) at stock, but you're saying that's not working, which makes me wonder about the RAM being even non-defective in the first place, hence why i'm suggesting starting lower.

I'm at 5-5-5-18 now, at 266fsb. I was able to bump that up to 300 w/out any trouble. But when I manually adjusted timing to 4-4-4-12, either at 266 or 300 I couldn't get the puter to boot. I manually set dram to DDR-800, but will try 667. I also did run memtest86 ealier today and got no errors. I bought this crucial ram back in early june, so I don't know if it is the same as those that are having issues. Mine are the bright yellow sticks.

Did you make sure subtimings were at least as loose as i suggested?

(4-4-4-12-6-42-10-10-10-11)

It seems pretty odd TBH.

Try these voltages/settings:

PCI-E Frequency - 101
PCI Clock Sync... - 33.33
Spread Spectrum - disabled
Memory - 2.25v (try to lower to 2.15v though)
VCore - AUTO for stock speeds (never use AUTO to OC; always set manually)
FSB - 1.3
NB - 1.45
SB - AUTO or 1.5
ICH - AUTO or 1.057
