Mem upgrade for old laptops

Hello all,
Considering some of the memory prices found in the "Hot Deals" section, I am hoping to upgrade a couple of older laptops. Mine, an ancient Compaq Armada E500; my buddies, a Compaq Presario V2602XT. I know that I can match these up at some of the memory-only sites, but how can I figure if the Hot Deal memory will work in these machines? I mean besides calling the sales-tech support folks at the Hot Deal sites. I do know that the memory for the two machines is physically incompatible.

Any help would be appreciated.
