I have 6 AeroCool X-Static Fans, and I was sleeving them... (For the first time mind you) and I was trying to see which method would work best in heating the heatshrink. On the first fan I melted the wires a bit, Once I relized that I spent more time and just used a hairdryer which worked pretty well. But should I replace the one with the melted wires? I don't think it was enough to do some actual damage, but I'm not too sure. My computer is 3000 Dollars on components and I don't want to damage it just because of a bad fan.

haha

i've done that, but when my computer was running:(

when i moved it up to college a few eeks back and plugged it in for 1st time the cse instantly filled with rancid smelling smoke and i saw orange glowing twisted wires inside! i pulled the plug but by then the smoke was billowing out the fan vents. i covered up the smoke detector, turned my fan on and opened the case. there were 2 twisted wires running out of my mobo to the front panel which had spot's of charred rubber on them but mostly metal showing. there was burned rubber all over the case and other wires.

it ended up being the case speaker wire, must have got shreadded on a sharp edge, grounded to the case, and drawn huge current throgh the wire. it was fried but after clean up everything else worked as normal
