Meh

I just started noticing how this word is popping up everywhere on these forums.

Can anyone tell me where it came from? Is there a specific social group, or portion of the country where it is common?

I've never seen this used my whole life, now it is coming at me from every direction...

Reminds me of a commercial I saw on MTV or VH1 over the weekend, that chronicled the rise an fall of the term "Bling-Bling". (R.I.P. 2003 when Grandma's started using it, it was hirlarious!)

Anyway, thanks for any info you can offer. If no one knows the story, meh.

I don't know where originally, but I know where I got it from, an episode of The Simpsons:

Lisa: We're the MTV generation, we feel neither highs nor lows
Homer: What's that like?
Lisa: Meh

It indicates indifference.

To me, bah has an element of disgust/disdain mixed in. Meh is just plain indifference.

Meh, to me, indicates a dismissive attitude toward the subject at hand. Bah is more negative.

Bah! You all suck!
Meh. Whatever...

your username is so fitting for that reply.

BTW, meh is really old, I've been using it for many years already.

example of using "meh":
- Did anyone call Steve about this?
- I don't think so, should we?
- meh *goes to do something else*
