This girl gets a lot of hate from the far right, but I just wanted to know what my fellow lefties thought of her.

I've been a fan of Meghan Mccain ever since her spat with Ann Coulture. I think she's one of the few republicans left who are actually in touch with reality. I applaud her for speaking her mind about the fact that the far right is a drag on the republican party as a whole.

Btw she's getting a book deal:

If we could all agree that the wingnuts on both sides are what is bringing this country down, we would begin to get somewhere.

Do you have to be a nobleman to be involved in politics now?

I wouldn't kick her out of bed for eating crackers, but beyond that, I'm more or less indifferent to her existence.

If the republican party has any chance, she represents it. She's got fairly sensible but conservative views, but the loud lunatic fringe believes her to be a liberal - further marginalizing themselves and their party.

In other words she agrees with your views?

Whether those ideas actually line up with traditional Republican ideas is irrelevant, as long as they are similar to yours then she is a 'good Republican'

Think of it this way... if Newt suddenly declared himself to be a Democrat how would you view people who looked at him and said "Newt is the kind of Democrat that I like" ???

No our views do not coincide. FYI she's a republican, her father is John Mccain. Surprised you didn't know that.

I just like the fact that she knows what the problem with the republican party is, at a time when so many republicans who are actually in charge do not.

I don't know enough about Meghan to make any time of judgement.

If she ran 45 minutes a day she would be hotter than most starlets. Shame...

She's not a Republican. She is a Democrat. She just calls herself a "Progressive Republican" to help his dad out, I guess. She is a Democrat.

So I mean, you can't start out a conversation about her being a Republican without acknowledging she is only a Republican in name only.

Funny, I'd say the current Republicans, the ones who are so corrupted, civil-rights violating, militarist, radical religious-aligned sellouts are 'Republicans in name only'.

And that the progressive Republicans - who are nearly extinct - the John Deans, the John Rothmanns (you probably don't know him), those who follow in the footsteps of Teddy Roosevelt on domestic issues from protecting the environment to supporting the balance of wealth for the public and the wealthy - those are the 'real Republicans'.

Keep disavowing the moderates. You'll find yourself with the 17% that thought Bush was doing a great job at the end of his term...good luck with that.

I know you and your fellow troglotards would love to be able to, but thank God you don't get to decide who's a Republican and who isn't.

The GOP has a long and storied history of a robust progressive wing, not that you'd know that, apparently.

It used to be a big tent party with a fiscally conservative bent, not an embittered clique of reactionaries quaking like cowards in Rush Limbaugh's obese shadow, beholden to religious fascists who would gleefully use the might of the federal government to impose their primitive and hateful views on all Americans.

The Republican Party I knew growing up didn't kowtow to ignorant fundamentalists.

These days, the it has been hijacked by radical wingnuts and social bigots, unfit and unworthy to carry the mantle of the party of Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Robert La Follette, Wendell Willkie, Thomas Dewey, Everett Dirkson, William Scranton, and Dwight David Eisenhower.

Just imagine what Barry Goldwater and William F Buckley would have to say about Coulter, Limbaugh and the Religious Right.

You're right, anyone not frothing at the mouth and threatening to disclose a list of known socialists in Congress is definitely a RINO.

I do believe Buckley and Limbaugh were longtime friends.
