id pick the megaworks setup of the logitech, some review sites have noticed a constand hiss coming from the center channel of the logitech setup that does not go away with a change in volume level, no one likes a hiss

the reviews didn't tell you logitech's fantastic customer support. Me and my friends have had our 560Z's rma'ed in a bout a week free of charge. My Z560 currenty doesn't not give any hiss, it sounds awesome with my Audigy 2. I would get the 680Z, i've heard it and it's a very nice upgrade from the 560Z:).

I just returned some z-680's. Even though I had the newer control pod with the latest firmware, there is still a noticeable hiss coming from the center channel. The subwoofer also sucks. If you turn the sub volume all the way down it turns it off. When you turn it one notch up, it gets way too loud. It's not good for music at all, just sounds like a boomy mess. I'm going to get the megaworks 550 since they are much more musical, and you can actually turn the subwoofer down without turning it off.

I have the 550's and love them. Many sites have not liked the 680's because of his and other things. But its up to you.

Yeah im wondering about the two sets aswell, one question though does the 550 have a wireless remote? Also are the speakers connected with proper speaker wire, not RCA's?

Thanks.

It comes with a remote, it's NOT wireless though. You can buy a creative labs remote though, they're cheap. I think I'll get one if I end up getting these megaworks. It's looking more and more likely.

Since I have'nt spent much time with the Logitech speakers so I can't really say much about them. The negative, which I can't really vouch for, is the infamous hiss from the center speaker.

What I can tell you about is the MegaWorks 550. I got them a month ago and they are terrific. I have them working in concert with the Audigy 2 and I am impressed, extremely impressed. There is no hiss from the speakers. The low end response is fantasitc. I had to screw my shelves into the wall to stop them from rattleing. They are easily worth the price. The criticsm against the wiring is hardly significant IMO. I have some monster cable on my stereo downstairs that cost many times what the sound card and Megaworks cost and I prefer the sounds from the computer.

That's good to hear. Those megaworks look mighty exciting. The only grip I have about it, is the exclusion of the wireless remote and lack of inputs, like the z680s. I found them for 250 shipped, no tax from Dell's Outlet. I'm so torn. $226 for the Megaworks 550 or $250 for the z680s? AGHHH!! I should post a poll.

I am about to pickup the Creative Megaworks...from what I've read they seem to have a clearer less boomy sound than the Logitech's, plus I've heard of far less breakdowns with these sets...but that's probably due to the massive amounts of them being sold...

Creative are sound people, they dont manufacture loads of products that logitech do so there expertise is greater in 1 area and has greater quality. Get the Creative megaworks 6.1 THX setup with the Audigy 2 platinum and youll be very happy.

I have the Megaworks 550 and they are great and my brother has the Logitech z680 and they sound awsome also, i havnet really noticed a hiss from the logitech like most poeple say they have. the logitech does havea wired and wireless remote that comes with it but teh wired remote is HUGE. the Megaworks 550 also has a wired remote but it is much smaller. if you have a nice sound card like the audigy 2 go witht he megaworks because they dont have some of the after wards proccessing that the logitech do. another thing is that the Megaworks fire the sub into the ground while the Logitech fires the sub into the air because it is on its side. any set that you go with you will be happy with it. also the logitech has a more powerfull sub but the sattlite spekers on the megawors are more powerfull.

Do they know what causes the hiss? Cos my center speaker on my inspire5300s have started hissing a bit more than usual.

As for which to choose, the Creative Megaworks. They are awsome. They sound better than some £1000 speaker systems that ive seen.
