If you put a lottery ticket on a treadmill, will it be able to take off?

You've got a better chance of being struck by lightning.

You've got a better chance of sleeping with Scarlett Johanson (sp?).

You've got a better chance of understanding what the hell spaceman is trying to say.
I hope you win!

Wait until somebody calculates how much you have spent over the course of 40 years :p

EDIT: Ok I decided to spend 15 seconds on it
$8/mo = $96/year = $3840/40 years

But, if you take that money and invest it in a simple investment fund that ONLY gets 19.5% over that timeframe, you will have like a gazillion dollars (or at least that is what the financial websites tell me).

Technically, you'd have $1,146,346.23.

i would play if i could buy online, but not worth my time to go in person

I'm the same. However my office building also houses the Georgia Lottery office and has a lottery stand at street level. So I just drop by coming back from lunch when the jackpot gets really big. I figure $2 for a longshot at having enough money to do whatever I want is worth it. I'd have just blown that $2 on pointless crap anyway.

How so?

1/175,711,536 = 0.00000000569114597006%

Odds are the same as if you didn't buy a ticket.

A person about a mile from me won the California Lotto a few months ago. $40 million after taxes IIRC. The person said in an interview they'd only bought a few tickets ever.

3 $1, or even $5 tickets over 20 years and they won $40 million cash. I'm pretty sure the $3 in my pocket will stay $3 no matter how long I leave it there. You don't have to spend tens or thousands of dollars over a few decades to possibly win a huge amount of money. And nothing else can net you 40 mil off a $15 investment.

Fuck. $355 Mill? I GOTTA GO OUT AND BUY ME ONE. FUCK.

Don't bother, if you win I could see you starting a thread whining about how much money you have and how you don't know what to spend it on. Not even $355 million would make you like your life.
