How much do you charge to clean a multi-million dollar home?
No one specifically hires an illegal to pay them 23 dollars an hour to clean their house. That's just silly.
How much do you charge to clean a multi-million dollar home?
Just catching up on this ... but seriously, why would Whitman knowingly employee an illegal alien ... she was loaded, it's not like she couldn't have afford someone more expensive that was legal.
I don't see the logic where if Whitman knew about it, that she continue to employ the lady just to save a few bucks ...
I don't think Whitman hired her knowing that she was an illegal. All I'm saying is that 23 dollars an hour is still cheaper than 30, 40, 50 dollars an hour. 23 dollars by itself doesn't tell us much. Which is why I asked "How much do you charge to clean a mutli-million dollar home?"No one specifically hires an illegal to pay them 23 dollars an hour to clean their house. That's just silly.
Well - she did fire her at some point. So she's not completely soft. LOLWhitman said in her statement that she had considered "Nicky" to be "a friend." That or perhaps she was an excellent maid, or both. I can definitely see why she wouldn't hire an illegal initially, but I also have no trouble seeing that she might not fire her after she finds out later. Maybe Whitman is just a softy?

I dunno. Maybe 23 dollars is still cheaper than what the next cleaner was charging? Maybe if Whitman tried to lowball her after she found out (still assumption at this point), Nikki'd quit?I understand what you're saying, but lets say you found out someone was illegal would you keep paying them 23 dollars an hour IF you decided to keep them on? Someone like Meg Whitman definitely wouldn't. You don't get rich by over paying for things.

Yes, its a lot by regular folk standards. But its a deal if other cleaners are charging 40/50 dollars an hour to clean the other multi-million dollar homes in the area. Without know everything, we're just spinning our wheels.Possibly, but 23 dollars an hour is fucking expensive man. I'd go clean Meg Whitmans house for 23 dollars an hour.

Like I said, without knowing everything, we're just spinning our wheels about the 23 dollar an hour figure. Not 40-50/hr as W-2. Also they probably have several people in the crew for the 40/50 hour.
Remember the Whitmans where probably paying close to 35/hour after all the taxes for a W-2 employee where taken into affect. Remember the Whitmans where paying social security, workmans comp etc on top of 23/hour and all this extra can stack up especially in CA. If the Whitman's knew she was illegal they just would have paid her cash under the table and saved themselves money.

If you have a maid you've been using for 3 years, you may not fire them OR try to lowball them. Not if the maid is working well for you. Not if you consider the maid to be a friend. And especially not if you're Meg Whitman and $23/hr. is about as important as the lint in your navel.

True, but rich people don't get rich by spending money on things that aren't worth it. Sure she could spend 23/hr to employ the maid, but she could probably get cheaper.
I tend to think people who are already rich, especially that rich, will pay their maids a high market rate and not worry about it. Especially if they think they get higher quality by paying more.
As an aside, my wife and I pay a crew of 4 to clean our house bi-weekly. One hour, 4 people, $70. That is for a 1200 square foot dwelling. It comes to $17.50/hr and so far as we can see from comparison pricing, we're paying right about the market rate for this area. I tend to think billionaires routinely pay above market and don't sweat it.

I'm becoming more convinced the maid is a liar.
She claims to have seen subsequent SSA letters in the Whitman's trash?
Putting aside the fact that the SSA officials claims letters weren't sent after 2003 (enough to prove she was lying), she'd have to be going through the trash on a daily basis to find these letters. I'm not buying that through some huge coincidence, on more than one ocassion she just happend to be walking by a trash can and look down and there were the SSA letters all laid out nice and open so she should 'see' them.
BTW: No lawsuit has been filed yet. Allred's role here is more than questionable.
Fern
Your first point seems valid. If SS said they sent no more letters and they are certain of it, then it seems the maid was lying. I hadn't heard about that.
As to your second point - maids typically empty waste baskets for their employers... It would be part of her household duties.

Don't you think knowing the kind of person Meg Whitman is, she would shred any documents like that?
I have no idea what kind of person she is or whether she or someone else would shred it. However, if Fern is correct that SS has verified that definitely no further letters went out, then that is pretty much end of discussion on the matter of whether there were further letters.

For sure. Can we deport this woman now?
