He was crying in the middle of the night that woke me up at 2:30am, 4:30am and 5:30am. I just gave up and slept downstairs near the dog incase he howled again. Any advice? I'm guessing he's just depressed and misses his 5 brothers. He'll be going to the vet soon for his check up.

Have you taken him for a walk yet? I've never met a dog that didn't want to go for a walk.

That's what we used to do for our kittens when I was growing up. I think we wrapped the wind up clock in a towel. No puppy wants to cuddle with a hard piece of metal!

Just put him in the bed with you :). Thats what I always do but I don't care if they sleep in the bed when they get full grown.

Blitz has thrown up a couple more times pretty much been lying down nonstop. Even when I went to PetsMart with him to change his puppy food, all he did was sleep in the cart. I also had to go to the vet to pick up some K-9 Advantix because I noticed he has a bunch of black specks and we noticed little critters darting across his fur and skin.

Last night when he pooped, it was solid. Today, it was diarrhea consistency and not very good looking at all. He hasn't eaten anything, not even a treat. I even went back and exchanged my puppy food for the one he was supposedly raised on. No luck.

I'm getting scared and my vet can't see him until Monday at 4pm. No vets are open right and I may have to take him to the emergency clinic. He doesn't look good at all. He's hardly responsive to being touched and just won't do anything except plop back down and sleep.

I did take him for a walk this morning at 6:30am since he was keeping me up anyways. He jogged for a little bit and was acting a little more like a dog than a limpless one, but I'm afraid of taking him around the block and stuff when he hasn't had his shots yet. I don't want him catching anything other dogs may have had lying around the neighborhood. Even when I take him out for a walk, you literally have to pick him up and carry him back in.

This was meant to be a puppy for my mother and now I've already spent hundreds and hundreds pretty much overnight on a dog she said she was going to take care of. :disgust:

I don't want to put him in the bed with me just because of his fleas/ticks. We'll be giving him a shower today and starting him on his K-9 Advantix in a couple of days. I hope those fuggers die!

I was told Blitz's mom was beagle/terrier and his dad was beagle/lab. I've no idea what's truth anymore since this puppy looks so sick. The lady I got him from left the 6 pups outside all day long and mom wasn't on premises which means they yanked the babies from mom prior to even being 8 weeks old.

It's heartbreaking knowing that this pup could seriously be sick. I think the emergency clinic and in need now.

Definitely take him to the emergency clinic. I'm not sure of the ones by where you live, but i know they weren't much more than what a normal vet would charge in my area.

My vet was charging $25 for a checkup.

The emergency clinic is charging $80 just for a check up (no tests included).

I can't RMA anybody. I got the pup from some woman who put an ad in the classifieds.

A wind up clock is great until the alarm goes off, then your dog is scarred for life...

just an update, Blitz is eating now, and has become quite alert over a nights time. He's getting more comfy it seems. Thanks for the praise, we get more pics up later.

When my parents got their current dog, my dad had to do just that: sleep downstairs with him because he didn't want to leave from beneath the kitchen table. Jaeger's appetite was never an issue though.

It doesn't seem like you are dog people... yet. :)

- Look into crate training.
- The dog needs attention on a massive scale right now, probably equal to a baby. Even consider sleeping next to the crated dog on the couch or something. At least until it get's comforatable (see crate training)
- Don't change foods often. Use a high quality food if you can afford it, it makes a huge difference in the coat and stool consistence. (cheap food = squirts)
- Get the ASPCA complete guide to dogs.

Good luck.

Did you deworm him? most puppies have worms. Advantix is great for fleas, not so good for ticks. What heartworm preventative are you putting him on? Sentinel would prevent both heartworm and intestinel worms. Dogs should be on heartworm preventative all year round. Good luck.

Thanks for all the advice! Blitz is currently in the process of getting dewormed, he supposedly has gone through part of deworming according to the previous owner, but we are skeptical and will probably have to start the process all over. We are going to take a poop sample to the vet tomorrow. But he's very up and up it seems and hungry for some eggs :)

No need to take a poop sample. They'll get it right out of the dog on the spot.
