Not going to quote the entire article, but is this what women in politics have been reduced to? I'm torn here. On one hand, we have idiots like Pelosi holding office, and as much as I'd like to see her given the boot, I'm not so sure I want one of these women to replace her.

The Palin Four will put the new model of female politician—modestly educated, electorally inexperienced, traditionally religious, beauty-queen types who oppose abortion for all other women unless the woman was raped or will die—to the ultimate test, the voting booth. If even some of them win, it opens a whole new vision for female political life—the polar opposite of what the women who started modern feminism were thinking of. The irony would be delicious if it weren't so bitter.

It's pretty ironic for you to call Pelosi an idiot. She has done better than I'd expect, the best speaker in decades, even if the house is blocked by the Senate Republicans so far.

I very strongly disagree with Pelosi's politics, her decadence, and her ignorance of reality. Her state is bankrupt and she's still spending month on the state and federal level like its going out of style. I won't even go into the whole health care debacle that she backs.

You're quite wrong, but you are doing a lot better than calling her an idiot.

You have a mix of misguided disagreement and frothing at the mouth. Your next homework: specifics.

I'm not going to get into a long debate about my opinions of Pelosi. The point of the thread is the Palin Brigade, as The Daily Beast calls them.

I'm not afraid to say I lean conservative-libertarian in my politics, but I want my politicians to have some experience and credentials under their belts before they're elected to office. Higher level state and federal elected positions are not the place for on-the-job training.

That's fine, but you started the Pelosi thread with the idiot comment. You want to back off of it, ok.

Your opinion on the other topic is sensible IMO.

I more hate the idea that this thread somehow paints all female politicians as Sarah Palin like idiots and intellectual featherweights. Its a certain fact that there is no shortage of male politicians that fit the description, and an overall shortage of male and female politicians that are polar opposites.

However we have to more blame the American voting public that are somehow attracted by some cock sure politicians who claim they have simple answers for complex problems.

Pelosi isn't an idiot. She's quite a few unflattering things, but she's not an idiot. Palin is an idiot in addition to quite a few unflattering things. This apparently is the key to being popular among the average populace. Look at reality TV shows and stars for further confirmation of this.

I think the belief that life begins at conception isn't based in misogyny, even if it's a belief that I disagree with.

I agree, it's based on what the pastor told whoever believes it, it has to do with god breathing a soul into the egg (nowadays we know that it's actually sperm fertilising the egg but some people STILL don't get it) and nothing to do with reality.

I do think the original dogma, which does contain quite a good deal of misogyny, is based on bullsheit though and i do think that pastors and preachers WILL and HAVE used it as a means to enforce mans control over womens bodies.

It's deep rooted and if you were ever to take a look into the Christian or any other faith you will find one thing... Men have the absolute right to decide what women can and cannot do.

And our two finalists for most stinging rejoinder in the No Mercy For the Slow-Witted and Dense category are:

Pelosi isn't an idiot. She's quite a few unflattering things, but she's not an idiot. Palin is an idiot in addition to quite a few unflattering things.

I hate the argument that being anti-choice is pro-life.

Palin is smokin' hot - one of those women you are likely to lapse with on a business trip...These other women not so much.

I have a problem with any politician who thinks he or she knows what's best for me.

I have a problem with a lot of people.

Specifically though, as mentioned above, I hate the buzzwords that too many organizations go out of their way to cram down our throats. Everyone is pro-choice and pro-life, the question is where you stand on abortion, and based on that alone I hate that I have to declare an absolute. No solution is perfect 100% of the time, unless it was MacGyver's idea.

Also, "best speaker in decades"? Really? Really?!

She looks OK from what i've seen of her but from that to smokin hot? No.

Then there is personality, she has none, it's not good nor bad, it just isn't.

Then there is intelligence and yeah, see above.

Perhaps on peyote but only if she shuts the fuck up at all times.

She's ok (in the older milf, librarian-type) but definately NOT smokin' hot. As long as she keeps her mouth shut.
