Bump, because I have the same problem.

I cant even get of rid it by reinstalling Nero. Now I'm trying out different burning software and CDRWin seemed to work as it should. Next up is EasyCD.

BTW, I'm using TDK VeloCD 12/10/32. Seems to be a real common problem with AOpen drives judging by their forum

i saw that too...the aopen drive thing.

which is no surprise because those aopen drives are merely rebadged ricoh's...they're all using ricoh technology - depending on the model of course.

if i could get my hands on a copy of easy cd creator 5 again, i'd use it - unfortunately i can't...and i sure as hell am not paying their suggest 100 smacks for burning software....pahtetic.

in case anyone ever reads this thread in teh future, i think i've discovered the rather easy-to-solve problem.

in nero, click on file-->preferences
in the general tab, uncheck "check for correct CD format before burning"

it worked pour moi!

Dang I have the same problem. I can only burn a 4X. I am using vertabatim 32X cds. I used the Aopen cds that came with the burner an i can burn a full 24X with them. Ill try the preferences thingy.

Well some light at the tunnel for me. Bought a pack Sony 80min 1-24X CDs and the first one burned like it should at 12X. I'm not feeling overly confident yet since different type TDK's and Maxells haven't worked. And those CD's worked before just fine.

it turns out that i still get the problem on occassion - must've been a coincidental fluke.

try screwing around w/ your ASPI layer, which is apprently at the heart of it.

I assume we're all using Nero, or had installed it prior ot the problem?...this might be the problem.
from nero u can download their latest ASPI layer - install it into nero's directory and the winnt\system32 directory.

if that doesn't work, try replacing the wnaspi32.dll aspi layer w/ Adaptec's full install...then make sure that file is also in the nero directory...
basically...u just have to screw around w/ your ASPI layer, as far as i can tell...make a backup of your system32 wnaspi32.dll file as well (should be smaller than the latest nero one - a lot smaller) and drop it in both directories as well.

check your ASPI manager by using any fo the utilities - i.e. the one provided in the adaptec install.

Ummm. I have reinstalled nero like five times. And I have d/l all the patches and it still wont work. So I went out and bought some runofthemill cds that some one stole from the dumpster that was behind some factory. They work fine. I can burn at a full 24X. I think it has something to do with the cds.
Anyone want 100 slightly used vertabitem cds?;)
