Hi all,

This is my first deals post so please treat as such 🙂

Most of the SoCal Frys have an ECS P4S5A2 MB w/ Celeron 1.7Ghz (bare CPU 1 Yr Warr) for $79.00

That is a great price considering the board is a decent Full ATX SIS 645/961 based board w/ onboard LAN. The only weird thing is that it is a Socket 423 board, but as part of the combo they are giving a converter to Socket 478. They have cooler master HSF for 12.95, so total package was $99.08, not bad.

Sorry if it is a repost (I did search before I posted and didnt see it).

Not a bad deal for someone able to walk into a retail outlet and walk out with the goods in hand!

There are so many midlevel computer options available nowadays, but this is still a good deal!

they must really wanna get rid of those old boards. its basically the same as the p4s5a (without the 2) which is the 478 version.

the down side of this is that the p4 based celerons are alot slower than you would think... (about equal to a 1.2ghz P-3 based celery) but its still a good deal if you plan on on smacking a P4 (willamette or northwood) on it later.
Cheapest Price on PW for a 1.7ghz Celeron is $74, so your basicaly getting the mobo for free. 🙂
This deal is going on at the Houston Frys also. so its probably nationwide

In the past, I have been able to work a deal at Frys on combos, where they will upgrade the CPU for a comparable price. Be a bit flexible, as it will depend on what they are trying to move at that time.

For example, Outpost (Fry's online) currently has a one day sale: Intel® P4 1.5GHz Socket 423 CPU W/ ECS P4S5A2 Motherboard for $139 HERE.

Yeah, there are flexible on combos, I have been able to upgrage thir duron combos to Athlons. But all in all for a budget system that gives you the flexibility to use either SDRAM PC 133 or DDR PC2100, and offer a future upgrade upto 2.4Ghz P4 is not bad at all......

Oh well, it boils down to preference

Another deal you might want to use in tandem is 256mb PC133 ram for 19.99, good enough for a budget system for a not so computer literate loved one 🙂
