mediocre RMA experience with SuperTalent

A few months ago I bought two SuperTalent 4GB Micron DDR3 SODIMMs from eWiz.com. They worked fine until a couple weeks ago when my Dell E6410 failed to start. I finally traced the problem to faulty RAM. I requested an RMA number from SuperTalent and they responded promptly. I sent the SODIMM back to them and they received it on 2 June.

I regularly checked my RMA status online but nothing changed until a couple days ago when it said that they had shipped out a replacement, 12 days after receiving the RAM. I opened up the package today and found that they had shipped me an SODIMM with Hynix chips on it. The memory works fine but I was disappointed that they did not send me a replacement that was identical to the RAM I sent them. In their defense, their warranty says that they will send you "functionally equivalent" replacements for defective components. I was also disappointed with how slow their RMA process was.

Because of my disappointment with their service I most likely will avoid SuperTalent RAM in the future.

I had a SuperTalent USB drive that I *frankly* abused physically by keeping it in my wallet. Like yourself they readily sent me an RMA and I promptly received a replacement. I was surprised since I *frankly* prejudged them as an overseas foreign company who can care less for an item that cost very little. I'm sure the cost of shipping both ways is nearly the manufacturer cost of the drive itself. Because of this positive experience it raised my expectation for overseas warranties.

Really slow RMA is always a disappointment. However, pretty much all manufacturers have a "functionally equivalent" clause. They are selling you a product with a specification.

I thought Super Talent was in San Jose, CA next to eWiz? ^_^

yeah buy american made ram - avant

That's as easy as buying any other American made consumer level computer electronics. :\

Not surprised - ewiz.com? SuperTalent? Both below my radar. 🙂

The way things usually go now with RMAs, I'd be happy getting back anything with brand chips on it and that brand wasn't Spectek.

Vastly better than performance and overclocking memory lines, where you'd not only be likely to get different chips but different timing or voltage characteristics as well. IOW, getting different chips with the same functional specs is entirely a non-issue that is significant only in your mind.
