i had some surgery a month or so back, involving 3 incisions on each side of my chest. is there any recommended way to deal with scarring? right now, its pretty apparant... including one incision that went through (and ruined) my pec. it looks real wierd.

what can i do to reduce the scarring? i heard a lot of vitamin E is good.. retin A? and what about reducing the chunk of muscle taken out of my pec? is there anything that can be done? or am i horribly disfigured for life. there goes my dream of mr universe...

Pressure bandages and massages can flatten some scars if used on a regular basis for several months. Silicone-containing gels, creams, and bandages can also be helpful in reducing scar thickness and pain. Though, they must also be used regularly and results are variable. You could also go to the dermatologist and get a consult on Surgical Scar Revision. You're always going to have a scar, but there things you can do to reduce how much it stands out. Consult a dermatologist if it's really important to you.

A technique i learned in massage school is to snap along the scar. The idea is to break down the scar tissue so that oxygen rich blood can get in there and regenerate feed the normal tissues to heal.

My wife had a Hysterectomy last August and has a 7 inch scar right above her pubic line. when she started the snaping therapy she had no feeling at all along the scar. She had done the therapy 3 times a day since September and there are the scar has full feeling and has almost dissapeared. its not a solid line anymore and is broken by normal tissue.

Give it a try, its free and for everyperson i have recomended this treatment for it has worked.

Even if you do nothing, it'll become less prominent with age, plus chicks dig scars.

citrix, could you clarify? what do you mean snap along the scar?

Snap along it like you snap your fingers but grab the skin when you snap it. you might or might not hear a snap. Snap it 30-40 times up and down the scar do it fast about one snap a second, 3 times a day.

Ooh...the snapping thing doesn't sound good to me. I'd leave that one alone. Give it time, no sun or UV, maybe try some Mederma.
