Mediatek MT8165 performance?

Anyone know how the Mediatek MT8165 performs compared to say the Samsung Exynos 5433 or Intel Atom Z3745? Or the Snapdragon S800 (only on hand reference I have)?

Will mainly be used for web browsing, watching videos, and reading comics.

A quick search says the chip is a quad A53 running @1.50 GHz. It may be power efficient but the CPU performance won't compare well against the Exynos 5433 or Atom Z3745.

For the stated purpose, GPU might be more relevant but my search did not reveal what kind of GPU MT8165 sports. But given the nature of 4xA53, it is not likely a powerful GPU is paired with it. (To be fair Mali and Intel GPUs have their own issues) What product are you looking at? The screen resolution might be a tell.

Pretty sure the GPU is a Mali-T760 MP2. In the Note 4 review Anandtech gives a good idea what the MP2 can do:

Honestly I wouldn't mind this SoC too much for web browsing. As long as it came with 2GB of RAM it would perform pretty close to 2013 tablet or maybe a little better. I still use my Nexus 7 2013. The GPU is a third the power of the top end but if gaming isn't a priority this GPU should be able to handle a 1080p screen for a GUI.

What would scare me more about this SoC is any device with it in it is probably skinned to hell and will Android updates on the pace of never. For a toss around the house device maybe that doesn't matter.

Come to think of it, Amazon's Kindle Fire HD 6/7 are a prime example of excellent tablets that use Mediatek SOCs. Not that you need an Amazon tablet but they prove a point that a high-end SOC is not a necessity for an excellent tablet. But I concur with poofyhairguy that 1 GB of memory is inadequate for web browsing, at any resolution.

Screen quality, speaker quality, weight/ergonomics, etc. should weigh heavily in your consideration than specs on paper, IMO.

Why go through the effort of starting two threads for the exact same topic?

Not really the same topic.

In this one I'm specifically trying to find out what the performance for this particular SoC is.

The other one is just asking about cheaper tablet options I haven't managed to find.

Bought a Lenovo Tab 2 A10 to find out. Here is AnTuTu: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBwnvb34bQQ

So far it is pretty speedy. CPU ranks just under Snapdragon 800 in GeekBench, GPU is more like Snapdragon 600. Not bad for $200.

Oh, and while the box says it runs at 1.5ghz, it actually runs at 1.7. Must have been the several updates it did when I first got it.
