Media Stuttering

Whenever I play a media file every 20 seconds or so the song/movie will stutter. This started happening the other day and is perplexing me. Is it the hd on the way out (SMART has no warnings) a corrupted audio codec, or what? Any insights would be appreciated.

Try new codecs or other mediaplayers. I've had al sorts of weird issues with different mediaplayers, sometimes WMP seems to be the best one, when nothing else will run the file. Most of the time I swear by VLC though.

hmm to add another degree of insanity to this, the problem stopped when I restarted my computer after turning off the tv out in nvidia control panel (or so I thought) but reemerged a few hours after said reboot
