I have been screwing around for what feels like forever trying to get a network set-up I was happy with. I think I have finally done it. The main hang-up has always been storage and streaming. I tried a home built WHS and using PS3mediaserver, works decent but far from perfect. The motherboard on that died so I gave up for a while. I recently decided to give it another go.
I picked up an Acer Easystore. I love it, quiet and easy to add drives to. I thought this would be the end and would just hardwire my PS3 to it. Well two problems came into play: first it turns out running a line was going to be much much harder that I thought it would and two the PS3 won't play MKV's.
So then I ordered a WD TV Live, I love the original, and a Netgear WNHDE111 network bridge. Go these set-up and now I have 1080P streaming wirelessly with absolutely no stuttering, skips, or any other issue. I can play pretty much any file format known to man as well. I am very very happy with the end product. It took longer and was more difficult than it needed to be but worked out well in the end. The ability to que up an NZB on my phone while at work and be able to sit on the couch and fire it up when I get home without having to touch a computer is like bliss. I am one happy camper.
My router is a Linksys WRT610N. The distance it's streaming is only about 30 feet with no walls in between.
