--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi. I'm using wmp11 as a media server and am trying to play back videos (.mp4) on my ps3. It is all done wirelessly (both PC and ps3 are connected to wireless network). But when I play back a video it takes a minute or two to start up and when it does start it pauses frequently (maybe every 5 seconds) it is not playing back steadily without pauses so my videos are unwatchable. What could be causing these pauses and how can I fix this problem?

Is my internet too slow to stream the video or is it a different problem? I have a 2Wire Wireless DSL modem that and DSL that is 1.5 mbps down/384 kbps up.

Any help would be appreciated.

Music plays back okay without pauses and photos are displayed okay too.

Weak wireless signal, older wireless setup, or too much traffic on the router.

If your PS3 and Wireless router are close enough, try connecting with a network cable and seeing if the performance changes. This will immediately tell you if this is the case or not. The problem isn't "your internet", it's the hardware connecting the computer and PS3. It cannot send data as fast as the movie needs it to play.

Essentially, you are trying to not only receive an entire movie over your wireless network, but you are trying to SEND it, too. Depending on the quality of the movie this could quickly put a hurting on wireless network. The wireless is limited in how much data it can handle, but using a wired connection to at least ONE of the systems should be enough to fix it. (while a wired connection with BOTH should be the sure-fire solution, if possible.)

The fact that you have DSL does not matter, as neither system needs the outside connection to perform these functions. It's merely a matter of bandwidth between the two systems.

Probably not unless you bought a 802.11n adapter for the PS3 too. The PS3 wifi doesn't support 802.11n.

You're probably best off trying to play around with your router settings to minimize interference or getting a more powerful antenna on your router first.

Well right now I don't even have a router. I am just using the DSL modem that came with my internet setup.. I beleive it is only 802.11b wireless and it doesn't even have an antenna.

Yeah I know that the ps3 is only 802.11g but isn't 802.11n backwards compatible with 802.11g? So I was thinking that a router should help..

Well, that's your problem right there. 802.11b really isn't sufficient for video. You definitely need at least a G router. If you feel like spending the extra money on a N router, that is your choice.
