shouldn't that be taken care of when you install the video drivers? You may have to purchase their purevideo decoder (or whatever it's called)...but last I check there was like a 60 day trial.

Yes i already had purchased the PureVideo decoder. But there is also a Windows Media Player .dll file that needs to be downloaded.

i'm pretty sure that any necessary dlls should be included in the driver install (maybe in the media center package instead?) otherwise try nvidia's forums...or the video forums here (though I hear scary stories about that place).

None needed for MPEG-2 DXVA which was already implemented. Use this thing to change your WM Player MPEG-2 decoder to NVIDIA's if it isn't already.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta...-4990-943d-627e6ade9fcb&displaylang=en

There is a needed patch for WMP10 WMV-HD acceleration which I *think* the latest verison already implements.
http://www.support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;888656

If it works I *think* you should see an NVIDIA icon in your notification area (system tray). You can double click or right click that icon and change some settings for the video and audio, also enable some cool Dolby effects and adjust colors. It also tells you what mode it's running in....accelerated or non-accelerated. In either, the effects are still being applied, just that in accelerated your GPU is doing it (and taking load off the CPU), and in non-accelerated your CPU is doing it. Net image quality result the same.

Thats exactly what i was talking about...thank you.

As far as the icon, it doesn't tell as much as you would think. Do you know if i want Overlay, VMR7 or VMR9 selected. NExt what do i want the De Interlace mode to be. VMR Default, VMR Pixel Adaptive, VMR Vertical Stretch. Also what about Deinterlace control. Do i want it set at smart, automatic, film, or video?

I wonder if there is a way to upgrade (I have the cheapest one right now) so i get the Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround. Right now it only works in Stereo, so i might have to install PowerDVD :(

Thanks a lot.

Choose VMR9, Default, Smart. That'll give you the best picture.

Install ffdshow and enable the AC3 codec? That should give you 5.1 (not by NVIDIA but still good). The NVIDIA video decoder will still be used (IF you disable ffdshow video MPEG2 decode).

Hmmmm...well...

What did you do specifically?

Did you install ffdshow and specifically enable the AC3 codec (under audio decoder configuration-Codecs tab)?
Does disabling it now give you sound back? Odd...

You could try using Media Player Classic. It will still use the NVIDIA decoder. It has a built-in AC3 decoder.

Disabling it uses the Nvidia codec and i do get sound.

I installed it and disabled all the video codecs. All i did was enable the AC3 codec on the codecs screen.

Try AC3 set to liba52 then uncheck dynamic range compression at the bottom? Try enabling the OSD and see if you can see anything.

Then on the Output tab in ffdshow audio decoder configuration, select connect to DirectSound and uncheck apply only to S/PDIF. Also, enable AC3 and 640K bitrate on the Output tab under 16 bit integer, etc. Maybe that's the problem. Try LPCM too.

LPCM output is intended for connecting to DVD audio decoder filters like one from Cyberlink.

I cant find that "connect to DirectSound" option. I also cannot find LPCM. But along with the other options im not getting anything. I dont even get the OSD.

Edit: I also cannot find Dynamic Range Compression option.

OK, install the latest ffdshow. You probably got the one from sourceforge (hasn't been updated) right? Other people have modified ffdshow and now basically develop the new versions so try getting that one here. I have 12-08-05 and I have those options.

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/codecs_and_filters/ffdshow.cfm

What happens when you play DVDs with Media Player Classic? Enable its built-in filters by going to view->options->filters tab. Then select DTS/AC3 in source and AC3 in transform.
