Whenever I play video clips, I see seemingly random blue and red squares showing up. It's distracting, to say the least. Does anyone know what I'm talking about, and do you know how to fix it? Thanks in advance.

Poorly encoded source? Mismatched decoder variant? Video drivers?

If the source can be ruled out put aside the video driver hypothesis for the mo' and try fiddling with the decoder and player settings then try a different decoder.

It's not the source, as it doesn't happen when I play the videos using winamp or WMP. I doubt it's the video drivers, as I update them regularly.

I'm not too keen on video decoder settings, though, but that would probably be the problem. I know MPC has decoder options, but I need a little help here :p

My suggestion is:

1. Uninstall all video stuff you've got on the computer.
2. Install CCCP with MPC.
3. Install QuickTime Alternative.
4. Install Real Alternative.

Doing this will let you play any video file, and as long as you don't have anything you forgot to uninstall which conflicts, you shouldn't have any errors.

Be careful of codec packs. They can play merry hell with some games like NOLF2, FEAR, Fable.
