Media Player 9 won't stream anything

Really weird situation here.

Anytime I try to connect to a streaming video source (windows media format), Media player (or whatever app is using it, like IE or MOZ) just shuts down. No error messages, nothing. Just dies.

I've uninstalled media player, uninstalled all codecs, and then reinstalled them, but still no go. I can view downloaded videos just fine, but nothing streamed.

Edit: on Windows XP, btw. and I used to be able to do so just fine. Just started acting up about a week ago. haven't isntalled anything new that I'm aware of. No viruses, no spyware, no hi-jacks.

make sure the streaming protacol are set correctly in the tools/network menu. did you get sp2?
