What options do I have for syncing playcounts with my media library using an Android handset?
Currently I'm fielding Symbian, Maemo and iOS. I had a Droid until a few months ago, but I never quite gelled with Android 2.0/2.1 - I ended up feeling it was a badly-done iOS, and didn't bring anything truly unique to the table as does e.g. Maemo.
However, I'm looking to kick iOS to the kerb in terms of everyday use and I'm also about ready to give Maemo a reluctant heave-ho. A Windows Phone 7 is definitely on the horizon either as as my main phone or as my main smartphone, but I usually carry a media-phone as well (the iPhone 4 is that for now), and was wondering what this should be. I don't really want to carry two WP7 phones and I was wondering whether I should look at one of the Androids again. The fly in the ointment however is the USB Mass Storage transfer of music / podcasts.
Whatever complaints you can level at iOS, the iPod has to me always done media right on the device in terms of metadata syncing which allows for truly smart smart playlists, excellent handling of podcasts (i.e. individual resume), etc. But I've had it up to here with iTunes and its complete lack of ability to fit into a heterogeneous media environment, which is the main reason for me deciding to drop the iPhone - and am looking for a phone that will work with something else: that something else being able to automatically index changes to its assigned media folders in the manner of WMP, and sync playback metadata like iTunes/Zune. I also want the no-brainer automatic transcode of Windows 7 -> MTP devices for unsupported video formats, and the individual resume capability for every episode of every podcast like the iPod.
Does such a solution exist under Android?
