Media Mail FTL!

Why oh why do some shippers on Half.com refuse to let me pay for anything other than media mail? I ordered 2 books on Jan 8 (different sellers) and they have not come yet. So, tell me, why is this mail so slow? What makes this more confusing is that one book is being shipped from NJ to MA. Does it really take that long?

Yes it really takes that long. I've had media mail take two months.

It comes when it comes. The problem with half.com is that though the seller can allow the buyer to select faster shipping options, it is often not enough to cover it. I sold a physics book once, guy selected the faster shipping option. Only got $5.05 for shipping, book is a hardcover and at least 5 lbs.

Lets just say I managed to wedge the 250 pg physics book into a Priority Mail flat rate envelope for $3.85.

What does USPS do with those packages that are being shipped via Media Mail? Do they hold onto it for weeks even if the destination is only a few miles from the origin?

BTW, I think that's what Bestbuy is using to ship my DS game. It shipped on the 15th and it still hasn't gotten here yet even though it's sitting in a Post office in the same city that I live in argh .

Exactly. It's worth it to me to pay the extra $5-$10 to make sure I get a book within a week.

Sometimes it feels like it, I've had it take a week across the country before and I've also had it take over a month too.... With media mail you never know when your going to get it but, I still use it in certain circumstances its alright still...

Exactly. They credit you between $1.9x-$2.xx for a simple little media mail dvd, but don't credit nearly enough to cover something heavy via expedited. What they give you is enough to barely ship two pounds. I stopped offering it when, just like brtspears2, I got caught paying like $10 to ship a twenty year old textbook that didn't even cost $10 itself. You can't expect to raise you initial prices to cover it either, because then it'll never sell.

Ha, I have had Media Mail take 2 days once. It was great.
But the longest is less than 2 weeks. Usually it only takes 5 days.

Really? I thought they had a team of 25 guys around the nation that rides bicycles to deliver media mail.
