I've been going threw some of my archived DVDRs and quite a few of them are already showing signs of degradation, lots of read errors, skiping and even freezing. These disk are only like 2 years old, they should not be degrading yet.

If I were to convert everything to a RW would the disks hold up better? RWs have gotten pretty cheap lately.
 
I think it depends more on the type of media, and to some degree, the brand of your burner and the quality at which it writes to the media.

What brand of discs are you using?
 
By my experience it will definitely help. I have some 3 to 4 years old archive/backups on my Verbatim DVD+RWs and they still work like a charm. My DVD-R on the other hand of several makes have gone bad on me, Verbatim, Memorex and JVCs...
 
Good quality media seems to be getting harder to come by on the market today unless you buy Gold Archive media at super high price. I have had good luck with TY media though.
