I have a computer with 24" monitor. I have a couch 6' from my computer. I use my computer for watching movies and, in the future, watching tv. I would like to be able to turn this into a normal tv experience. As in, I can pause it, change the volume, surf tv, etc with a remote from my couch.

Any suggestions for this?

i was reading CNN awhile back, gb-pvr is the alternative. i heard it is really good. but painful to set up. i uninstalled it because i couldnt get it to work.

I've used gbpvr for like a year now. I find it to be painfully easy to set up and just get running (of course theres advanced features) but getting it just up and running is pretty simple.

Thoguh you have come in at a kinda odd time. The free EPG service is being taken away (paid only or something) but you could set it up now with that and switch when you have to. Set up is pretty much just select the card and then the EPG service and thats it. If you don't get video or have problems the community is really helpful.
