I second that one. I have an ATI HDTV wonder and the RF remote I prefer over the IR one. Otherwise you have to buy a fancy case which will run you something like 130.00 which is just BS.

With the RF remote you can hide the PC because it works through the walls.

Actually, for MCE, I prefer the MCE remote over the ATI RW, even if it is IR vs the RW's FM. It comes with the receiver unit (you don't need any expensive case), and also a pair of IR blaster for your STB if you need it. Unless you plan on changing channels in the next room, I'd go with the MCE remote...its made for MCE.

You don't want the media Center remote if you aren't using Media Center.

XP MCE is no PITA however, its the most user friendly/stable PVR GUI available. I'd definately consider it strongly if you are talking kids and family use.

Ultimate TV was significantly better despite MCE being a later product.

MCE will probably get it right in the next release. But then X-Box 360 will be in the living room instead.

Ultimate TV is a Direct TV product that charges you a monthly fee, MCE 2005 is an OS + Multimedia suite for the PC.

Does it support your DVD library?
Does it support your Video Library?
Does it suppoort your Music Library?
Does it support your HDTV programming/recording?
FM Radio?
Weather Reports?
Netflix?
DVD burning?

It seems to be geared more like TIVO to me, requires a subscription seems to fall way short from MCE's full feature set but looks like a decent TV solution if you're going satellite. IMO, MCE got it right THIS time, and it will likely only get better.I don't really see them a competing in the same space.

No I have an XBOX with Mod Chip which supports all video formats not just Microsoft ones.
And for HD I have IODATA link player 2 which I stream HD video content to.

What I was getting at is the MCE doesnt support enough products especially the most popular ones like the ATI HDTV Wonder. But I am hoping next version will.

I am also hoping that the XBOX 360 supports HD-DVD otherwise I will be very dissapointed.

This is what I use: http://www.vendur.no/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=1&products_id=214

Works well, attaches to an internal USB port, the PSU's +5VSB line, and inbetween the powerswitch and the motherboard. I had to order from them because I couldn't find a US vendor...
