Just curious,
after a new install of windows, how do most of you go about getting media player to play most videos? After a clean install, media player will only play sound and no video, unless you install a codec.

I usually install codec packs (like klite etc) but I was told thats not a good way to do it etc. Maybe there is a more proper way?

I usually get VLC for playing smaller files. But i use GBPVR for most of my video watching which requires codecs to be installed. So i just grab the Klite codec pack and pick and choose what exactly i want installed. DVD decoder, h.234 codec, xvid, divx, and ususually keep most of the weirder codecs in there just for the rare occassion i play them.

I used to download individual codecs but it started just annoying me and i like the all-in-one package of k-lite.Plus keeping them up to date started taking awhile from having to go to each site..ect whereas K-lite i just go to one site, see its been updated, and download and have everything up to date.

Honestly i haven't had any problems with k-lite. never noticed slow system from more codecs or anything.

what site do you use to get klite from?

Also, my reason for asking is for gbpvr as well :)
I have vlc on there but want to be able to run videos via gbpvr instead.

Also, why the hell doesnt media player come with the popular codecs built in...?
