Electronic Arts has officially announced that the Medal of Honor franchise is getting the long-rumored modern day reboot. Set in present day Afghanistan, it will feature "Tier 1 operators" who operate in obscurity and secrecy but are even more deadly and highly-trained than the best of the Special Forces. The tagline for the game is "I fight with my mind. My hands and my weapons are extensions of my will."

EA promises that the single-player gameplay will be inspired by actual events and will be developed with the help of the Special Forces community.

Set to be released in 2010 for the PC, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3, the single-player will be handled by EA Los Angeles while the multiplayer portion of the game will be handled by Battlefield franchise experts DICE.

More information and a full trailer will be released as part of Spike TV's VGA award show on December 12th.

I heard about the upcoming modernization of the MoH games a few weeks ago. Massive CoD ripoff, and for a game called "Medal of Honor" which (I would think) sounds as if it was designed to be played with SOLDIERS it's sort of dissappointing to see these super elite spy types.

My guess is if it's half as bad as MoH: Airborne I'll skip it happily.

I'm definitely intrigued. Really like that tag line, too. So far, my list for 2010 is, Red Dead Redemption and now this.

Not spy types. Elite Special Forces types. Looking at the picture, I'm thinking it is the soldiers that are stuck out in the middle of no-where in Afghanistan doing the dirty work. Kind of like the Afghan Horse Solders story.

EA usually doesn't take this long to find a bandwagon and jump on it.

personally i've never found any of the medal of honor games particularly good, CoD has always handed them their asses when it comes to single player.

Allied Assault for the PC is one of my favorite games of all time. If they put their minds to it they can make a great game, I just have my doubts now.

And Queasy, as cool as the picture is with the guy and his backwards baseball hat and such is...it just doesn't do much for me.

MOHAA was probably the worst for me. it felt like a quake3 mod (which i guess it basically was).

and the dude on the game cover screams 'merc' to me, not special forces.

Actually, that's pretty accurate for Afghanistan. Like I said, these guys are out in the middle of no where so they don't get the niceties of things like running water and shaving. Here's a group of Navy SEALS.

Here's one of the Horse Soldiers I mentioned.

And here's a special forces guy playing pool with the locals.

Holy crap, Kabob, could you maybe reduce the size of that one image? It's throwing off the formatting.

Wow, people sure are quick to shit all over this game (and I'm not just talking about the comments in this thread). And so far we've seen...the box art.

Ha, I remember those SF guys getting pummeled by their superior officers when those photos came out... crazy long beard ain't regulation standard, from what I read.

Also, I think a game that had you as a Blackwater / Xe contractor would be insanely awesome, and probably go a long way to making the story more believable. (Regulations? That's for them Army boys!)

I guess Medal of Honor: Modern Warfare might have been asking for a lawsuit or 10.

Medal of Honor: Contemporary Mobilization?
Medal of Honor: Current Conflict?
Medal of Honor: Bleeding-Edge Battle?
Medal of Honor: Latest-Weaponry Showdown?
Medal of Honor: Recent Rata-tat-tat?

Sorry, but I've never seen a franchise fall as fast as MoH. Like I said MoH: AA is one of my favorite games ever. Everything after that has absolutely blown. My faith in their ability to resurrect the franchise even moving it to modern times is next to nil.

I've never liked the Treyarch CoD games but I knew IW could put out a hit. Still, I wasn't expecting much out of CoD 4 and I thought it was a bad idea to move to modern times (which was wrong on my part, the game blew my mind, I loved it) so I suppose anything is possible.

Well, I guess the positive for this iteration of MoH is that EA Los Angeles is developing the single-player (different from Airborne) and DICE is doing the multi-player.

The downside is that now we've gone from having a glut of WWII shooters to a glut of modern day shooters in MW2 and Battlefield: Bad Company II. If they release it late 2010 then it'll be able to sit by itself assuming that COD7 isn't set in modern times.

Call of Duty is so dominating right now though that MoH will have to work hard to get more than just the left over table scraps. The latest Live Activity chart shows three CoD titles in the top 5. That's just sick.

Holy cow, I didn't realize CoD 4 and W@W were still up there (I assume that's the other two, site is blocked here)! That is some major arse kicking for sure.

+1, it seems like the mentality is "well, the WWII ship has sailed, guess we need to "modernize" everyone to draw the crowd from the other modern times games." Which came out first, CoD 4 or Bad Company?

Well, the idea sure beat the hell out of war world II games. Come on, The WWII theme medal of honor series has been going for longer than actual WW2 and if you put all the game, movie, and tv show that is about WW2 and it might last logner than the actually Normandy landing, so it is a thumb up for them to try something new for a change.

The reason for this is the core team and leads of 2015, the developers of the original MOHAA, left and formed Infinity Ward. So think of it as: MOHAA -> CoD -> CoD UO -> CoD2 -> MW -> MW2

Hrm, I didn't know that. No wonder I loved MOHAA so much. Course, I wasn't a big fan of the first CoD and I've still yet to play CoD 2, but MW makes up for it all.

Actually a lot of those guys are CIA, not regular military. Many CIA operatives are recruited from special forces and they are the guys who hunt the top tier terrorist leaders and are responsible for capturing so many high value targets that are in Gitmo.
