Medal of Honor Airborne

On Saturday I got a chance to sit down with this game. After playing the demo, I wasn't in love with it at all but it had something that made me want to keep playing.

And I must say, even though this game is just a WW2 shooter game, it's still a lot of fun. It also is a very VERY tough game. I'm playing on normal and I cannot believe how hard it is. It rivals COD2 on veteran and I'm only playing it on medium. That is part of the reason that I'm into it and want to finish it.

This game is rather short though. There are 6 missions. I finished 5 the first day I had it.

Also, the way the checkpoint system works in this game is just downright awful. I do not even know how it passed testing the way it is.

Example: you have to kill 3 generals that are in this huge mansion. Getting into the mansion is nearly impossible as is because they have the unlimited enimies coming until you reach a certain "point" in progression. So I finally got into the mansion w/hardly any health, and I killed the first general. Checkpoint reached, game saved. I then get killed.

When I reload, I'm outside of the mansion again, however I only have 2 generals to kill. So now I have to make my way back into there ...

This is part of the reason the game is so hard. Instances like this happen throughout the game. Or sometimes you will get to a point like that, where you save your checkpoint, and then you die, and you have to parachute back into the scene. It's kind of strange imo. But I guess if they didn't do this, the "Airborne" gimmick wouldn't fit really.

However, w/all that, this game still is a lot of fun. Being non-linear is actually a nice touch on this genre and is part of the reason I liked it. I had to immediately change the controls to one that is more default to the FPS genre.

IMO if you like FPS and dont mind WW2, this game is definitely worth a rental. I wouldnot bu it however because the length of the game is so short.

I put it on my Gamefly list after playing the demo and hope to get it today. I too liked the non-linear nature of the game and I also liked the awards (weapon upgrades) that you get as you play through.

The checkpoint example you gave doesn't sound too bad to me. You could almost look at it like you got killed so now someone else has to fight their way in to finish the job. What does annoy me though is the infinite spawning enemies. I really don't like it when games resort to that. Though I'm still looking forward to playing the game.

i agree it's fresh that it's nonlinear but i think its too little too late for WW2 shooters.
bring on CoD4

I never even gave it a look, being burned out on the whole WW2 thing and all.. Maybe I'll check out the demo.
