For those fans of the original BattleTech board games, this game will be right up your alley. It's set to release later this summer with a closed beta starting up in the next few days (just have a forum account for the chance at an invite). So what is MechWarrior Tactics?
MW:T is billed as a browser-based (Unity engine) F2P game supported by microtransactions. Players can buy "booster packs", either with real or in game currency, that will contain the 'mechs and swappable parts with which you build your lances and customize your units. You'll also earn parts (not sure about mechs) via battles as the "spoils of war".
The BattleTech board game rules are the main inspiration for combat. Matches will be turn-based with the factors like LOS, elevation, and heat management affecting the outcome of battle.
Not a lot is known about the full workings of the game so far. Here's what has been released or spotted in the screens and videos so far or mentioned by the devs -
* The game will take place in 3025 before the Clan invasions
* Mechs so far known to be in game: Atlas, Awesome, Catapult, Dragon, Grasshopper, Hunchback, Jenner, Orion, Spider, Stalker, Trebuchet
* The game is F2P but not pay to win
* Mechs will be fully customizable with swappable parts and custom color schemes
* At launch, the game will only be 1v1 matches supporting up to 4 mechs per side
* Game can be played on tablets/smartphones with HTML5 capability
* Components will have manufacturers that give varying stats and having a number of components from the name manufacturer will confer some bonus.
The developers are promising that there will be a lot of content expansion after the game launches.
