Turn based :awe:

Sounds like this will be closer to the original game (not computer game, but original 1984 game), which would be cool.

Yup, looks like this will seem closer to the original tabletop game. What's more, it's F2P browser-based. That made me cringe but it looks interesting...and I hated MechCommander.

Hated MechCommander?! Oh well, to each his own I guess.

I loved that game. Right up there with Dune.

Updated Topic with Dev Chat Video

It's turn-based and browser-based. F2P with microtransactions.

It looks pretty damn good for a browser game I have to say. I didn't bother reading that far and got a shock when I read IGemini's comment.

I'm still quite excited. It's real mechs (not mecha), they can't effectively strafe usually and it looks gorgeous. I have some faith that they can pull off the whole microtransaction thing like World of Tanks has. You can't pay to win and at best you can earn a minor advantage in matches. RL cash in 99.99% of cases is used to enhance the speed at which you can level up or make certain upgrades faster.

soo looking forward to this, I used to rule at the tabletop game, would love if this is just a f2p online version of that, especially without the expanded tech (although I admit, using the mine laying rockets I was especially nasty ;) )

stopped by the site and looked at a coupe of the play videos, does look like a nice graphical version of the boardgame. would prefer it to be a standalone program and not in a browser window, but if it stays true to the tabletop rules, looks like it could be very fun.

From reports I have heard, customisation is next to non-existant unless you get a top level mech card and even then it's very limited at the moment.

It's kinda off my watch list now.

If by customization you mean ability to alter standard mech layouts, couldn't really care if that was included or not. I'd be perfectly happy playing game after game with the standard mech loadouts.

Aw man, as if I didn't spend enough money already on original BattleTech source material and Dark Ages clix. I've got at least one of all the first run Clix. Hell, I still have Heavy Gear die cast table top minatures around here somewhere, including a special Christmas model with a Santa hat...

EDIT: I should clarify, I doubt I'd really play much of this F2P version. Collecting virtual cards for use on a virtual playing field isn't quite the same as PnP or die cast table top collecting.

Come to think of it, wasn't there a free/open source game that was essentially the BattleTech board game but without the official mech names?

MekTek I think it is... And I think they used official names and stuff.

I have some faith that they can pull off the whole microtransaction thing like World of Tanks has. You can't pay to win and at best you can earn a minor advantage in matches.

Trying to figure out what WoT BS you have been smoking. WoT is ABSOLUTELY PAY TO WIN. First you have gold tanks. Ones which happen to simply be a heck of a lot "bouncier" than their armor stats would otherwise claim. Ones which also have quite a bit better guns which either shoot faster, aim faster, are more accurate, do more damage, or penetrate better then other guns. Lets not even talk about the Lowe....

And then we have gold camo. Camo that makes your tank less likely to be spotted by enemy tanks.

And then there is gold ammo. Ammo that penetrates farther, and does more damage than any of the normal stuff (this was only just recently allowed to be purchased with free in game cash at a very steep price).

So I absolutely hope they do not do it like WoT.

I'll disagree with everything you said except for the IS-6, that's one of the most overpowered tanks in its tier thanks to preferential matchmaking and the strangely bouncy armor. The gun is shit though, you have to get used to the crap penetration that's insufficient even for tier 7 or sling a full gold rack (at which point the IS-6 loses its meaning since it can't make money anymore). But I suppose its good for trolling pubtards.

Not sure what premium tank you're talking about with the god gun either, name please. Hope you're not talking about the type 59 because while the gun is good, its not better than anything its tier and is in fact slightly underpowered.

lol@lowe...

The lowe has absolute garbage armor and the terrible speed make it easy pickings for anything with half a brain. It's actually fairly balanced, but its leaning towards being underpowered for its tier due to its immense weight and garbage armor. Plus a huge frontal engine that catches on fire every other shot even with preventive maintenance. I'd almost lean towards screaming "RUSSIAN BIAS" since the tank is such shit.

You'll only have problems fighting lowes if you're new to the game. Or if you're terribad and don't know where to aim. Even the turret has huge weakspots that are easily exploitable from the front. I'd prefer a Tiger II ANY day if it made the same amount of credits the lowe did. Hell, I'll take a T32. Both vastly superior tanks that can actually relocate and bounce shots when needed.

-"Gold" Camo is purchasable/renewable with credits and always has been. The camo effect was only recently added.
-Gold rounds is purchasable with credits now.

If anything wargaming has made the game more approachable without needing to buy any sort of gold whatsoever. I'd have agreed with you to a degree before they introduced credit rounds but not anymore.

Please refer to PowerYoga's post. Your points have been addressed there.

And I am certain that you will be even more disappointed with MWT than you were with MWO.
