Mechwarrior 3 on xp. help!

i got the game to work with the newest patch...but the game freezes. it's not the video card. help! i can give more information if u need it.
 
what do you need to know?

it freezes at random time intervals...but usually when i run right next to a mech.
 
Try it without the patch. My MW3 runs that way on XP Pro x64, anyhow. If you really get desparate for your MW3 goodness, you could exercise your downgrade rights and install Win2000 Pro in place of XP. edit: I guess I'm assuming you have XP Pro and not XP Home.

Get away! 😛 MW3 is too easy. I can plow through MW3 on High difficulty with zero lancemates (other than the missions where they join me from elsewhere), including the endgame. MW4 Mercs on Elite difficulty is a challenge even with seven lancemates in the best 'mechs C-bills can buy. Try that Griffon Base mission :Q Fortunately, if you are lucky you will be assisted by The AC5 Turret That The Enemies Dare Not Fire Upon For Some Reason 😀

I do admire some of the excellent environmental work and the authentic lumbering-war-robot feel of MW3, though 🙂

Read your XP Pro license agreement, you're entitled to downgrade if you like 🙂

 
no like i can't. this isn't really my computer so i can't screw with it.

and mw3 online kicked ass. you have to actually be good at the game and know how to balance a mech (even if it was a little unrealistic) mw4 sucks...the crosshair is in the middle and it just doesnt really feel like a mech game. mechwarrior 3 and ESPECIALLY 2 both felt like mech games...maybe it was the music. whatever. why is it still freezing!!!! (how do you think mw4 would look on a p3 933 and a geforce 2 gts?)

It would look almost as good as it does on a 6600GT with an A64, actually. I used a 1GHz Duron instead of a P3, and a slower GF2 GTS-V(alue), but close enough. Radeon 7500 doesn't do too bad either. I wish they'd do a MW5 with, like, the FarCry engine or something :Q dude!

The really humongous MW4 Mercenaries and MW4 Black Knight battles call for 384MB+ of RAM or else you'll get notchy action, like Tharkaad - Overlord with the seeminly-endless supply of enemy units, or the Griffon Base endgame mission on the Steiner side of the fence.
 
i have 384... how did u beat mw3 5vs1 on hardest settings? maybe i was too young...

anyway, how do i get the game to stop freezing! i found no information on this. it only freezes in the game, not at the menu screens.

Build a custom Annihilator with max armor, minimum engine, and all the LRMs and heatsinks you can possibly cram onto it. Stay near the shuttle, wait for one of those Clan fools to come within range, and start unloading salvos of LRMs on them :evil: Use your coolant flushes to bring the temps down as needed. You'll take some PPC strikes but you'll easily outlast them if you take the standoff approach.

Plan B: equip your 'mech with jump jets and get up onto the rim of the "arena" there, then snipe them at your leisure with LRMs, lasers, whatever you like best. You can actually go roaming off into the tundra or even toodle back down underground to the mech factory.

Plan C: build a fast Annihilator with four LBX10 autocannons, plenty of ammo, and max armor and just wade into 'em. :evil: Circle and keep moving. If you want, you can make a sortie against them to lure them, then duck back into the cover of the shuttle nook and wait for them to arrive so you're not exposed out in the open in the meantime.

edit: a couple AMS's might help too.
 
i used to always pick a shadowcat...when ulimited ammo was on i just crammed it with speed and machine guns 🙂 you can't lose taht way.
 
ok new info. it freezes when i complete an objective. when i began the training, turning the mech on froze the game. killing a mech in instant action froze the game. what does that mean??

edit: now, it freezes after i kill a mech right when it targets another.
 
i have mech 2, mech 2 mercs, and mech 3. mech 2 clans had the best soundtrack 🙂. thats why the mech series is great-soundtracks...mw4 blew it.

yea so its STILL NOT WORKING!! none of you computer experts know how to fix this?
 
sorry, it's probably a low level code thing. If compatibility mode doesn't fix it, then there isn't much else to do, other then a full system check to make sure that it's not just a symptom of a system stability issue.

Have you checked temps, ram (memtest), prime, burn a copy to see if it's a media read issue, etc?
 
temps are definitely ok. the game is fine. sometimes it doesn't freeze for a while. none of my games or apps freeze like mech 3...i'm starting to think it's just not compatible 🙁 tear
