Mechanics, Chevy Blazer, w/ 3/4 350, not engaging 4wd

It seems as if the GF's vehicle will not engage 4wd hi or lo... the light will turn on, and act like it is going to engage, but then nothing will actually happen to the front wheels, they will just sit, and continue spinning the back wheel (damn open diffs make deep snow a bitch). but, anyways... click into 4wd HI, drive around, and it wont engage, ever... it will make a clunk like it is engaging something and then nope, nothing... same with 4wd lo...

Vitals
2002 Blazer
99k miles
4.3l v6
new transmission
1 accident in a parking lot not at fault, front bumper was replaced.
transmission dropped some **** on thankgsiving last year and now has about 15k miles on it...
push button 4wd, no lever action.
She says she has driven around w/ 4wd actually engaging last winter, but now it wont ever do it...

any ideas?

I'm going to guess when the transmission was replaced one of the solenoids on the transfer case wasn't hooked back up right. That's the first place I'd check.

Or they left the driveshaft out...

I would think a simple plug not plugged in would be more likely 🙂

Don't those also require vacuum to lock/engage the hubs on the push-button systems? That could be an issue if so.

If it's clunking, I don't think it would be just a button or plug connection.
