[/b]Background info:[/b]
i have an '85 jaguar xj6. I just got the alarm installed and things were working fine. The car shop that installed my alarm removed my radio and threw the actual radio on the front seat and left the face plate on the bare metal floor in the back, as well as failing to install the lights IN SPITE OF the fact that my car is missing a door panel on the passenger side (b/c i was fixing a lock) and the fact that i took out the rear bench seats.

Problem:
Anyways, i was putting my radio back in and wiring it into the fuse box when i accidentally grounded out the wires past my fuse box. NOW...my car won't turn...not even a noise from my starter.

What i need:
I called the car shop looking for ideas. They told me it sounded probable to be the fault of a blown ignition fuse. I can't seem to find that and in the two fuse boxes that i have, all fuses have perfect continuity. I asked if the starter kill from the alarm was faulting my start, but there is no fuse and he said the alarm is not at fault seeing as it still activates and my remote start does a perfect emulation of a key in the ignition.

So....how do i bypass my ignition (even though i have a key) to tell if the ignition IS in fact the problem? I found my distributor and was going to bridge the two terminals, but after finding it, realized it was near impossible to pull off. BTW...my dad says bridging out the distributor is NOT the correct way to hotwire a car.

pretty simple.. but..

your car mostlikely has a steering lock.

AKA you cant turn without the key.

so yeah.. there should be two wires you connect, thats the "acc" or whatever.. like the first turn of the knob. then theres one more that needs +12v ( i guess?) to the solenoid..

I assume. never stolen a car.

So you can still start the car with your remote?

When you put the key in the ignition and turn it, do any of your accessories like a door buzzer or gagues turn on?

when i turn my key (or use the remote start...same exact outcome), all the electrical accessories power on, including my dash lights, but no turning of any motor.

the easy way to start it would be to the the key to the on position and then use jumper cables to go from the hot on the battery to the hot on the selenoid. That may or may not work, i don't really know for sure. too bad it isn't a johnson outboard, they're easy as can be

The way you hot wire a car is.
Run a wire from the positive side of the battery to the distributor, side of the coil.
Then jump across the starter solenoid.

No I'm NOT a car thief!! ;)

BTW: This will only work if it's got a carb., and it doesn't have electronic ignition. As far as I know.

In his case it should still work since he has the key to turn on the car's computer. :D

Yeah, I thought that while I was posting but didn't want to say it. That would royally suck.

Not to mention, I'm like that little kid from the Twilight Zone. If I say something crappy and I sincerely mean it, it happens! :Q

Some alarm installs cut the ignition wire and install a relay, it stops the car from starting if the alarm has been triggered.
This would stop your starter from working. If one of the wires you grounded was the power to the alarm it might be why the relay can't close and no power to starter selenoid.

Easy.. I've seen it done thousands of times on tv. Reach under the dash, grab a handful of wires, yank them and then connect two of them together. When it sparks, it should start your car. Heh..

Seriously, I don't know how, but it does look so easy on tv and it seems like most anyone on tv can do it also.

You may have blown a fusible link.. where the hell they are on that car who knows. You also may have blown one of the fuses to the remote start system. Some remote start systems have 7 fuses. Check them all. Your remote start has an ignition bypass. If you can identify the cut wire to the ignition that is used for bypass, and reconnect it to bypass the remote start interupt, that will tell you if the vehicle wiring is intact or there is a fault in the remote start system. If there is a blown fusible link or starter relay you will know if you reconnect the bypass at the ignition switch.

Hmm.

Jaguars and electrical wiring . . . I've heard something about this before. ;)

Seriously though, that really sucks. I hope you get it fixed.
