What made & model of mechanical pencil is ATOT favorite?

So far I only had experience with Staedler, Rotring, Pentel, and limited experience with Zebra.

Pentel are fine for math & writing (seemed to break the lead more often than the competitions).

The Rotring that I had seemed to be a bit heavy and are great for drawing, however the better ones are too expensive for my taste.

Staedler are great for drawing & writing and price is much lower than Rotring.

Zebra, so far they function fine for me as writing tool, and I will have to put these Japanese made pencils to the the test on my drafting pad tomorrow to see how well they fair agaist the German made pencils above.

I've used a Pentel P245 and P205 throughout all of college and they've worked well. The main reason I use them isn't because I tried many out, but rather when my dad was in college, he bought a shitload of graphite and eraser refills for the two pencils (the same two I'm using now) and mechanical pencil stuff is really expensive.

I like the Zebra ones. They're good for writing (when you need nice handwriting) and detail work in drawings, but aren't that good for doodling and quick notes in my opinion. They were good for my drafting class. I just use whatever when I don't care about the detail/precision. I haven't really used any more expensive ones, and sometimes I like the plastic grip and sometimes not.

Paper Mate PhD. Stylus, pen and pencil all in one. Of course I use the pencil and stylus only really... and since I ahven't used my PDA in ages it's really just the pencil. I use a gel pen for everything else (Pilot G2 for the win).

That's the first thing I look for in a pencil, or anything really. I mean, what good is it if when the proverbial $#!^ hits the fan and you can't use it to kill something?

Only problem with the metal tips is putting them in your pocket. This leads to randomly stabbing yourself in the fingers when you reach for it suddenly, and also poking holes in your pocket. I suppose its a trade off for the ability to go Casino-style on someone's neck.
