Mech watch death thread

Smartwatches actually pushed me to getting a regular nice watch. I don't think any smartwatch is quite there yet in terms of what I want/expect, but I am now accustomed to having the time on my wrist. The convenience of that alone is worth having one.

Where else would it go? Smartwatches are definitely mobile, and most of them require your phone to get a connection.

I imagine watches will finally die off when everyone is using contact lenses with tiny built in computers and HUDs that display the time in the lower right hand corner.

Is this "death watch" only for mechanical watches, or also modern, quartz watches too?

The former are basically all jewelry, a quartz watch will tell the time better and cost fraction of a mechanical watch. Are sale of both declining or just mechanical ones?
