I'm a big fan of everything BattleTech and sadly, I haven't seen anything from that universe since MW4: Mercs.
The MW4 series is...nice...but does not have the right "scale", IMO, like MW2\3 did. The graphics are also a bit odd.

Anyway, I watched Transformers for the first time a few days ago, it was "ok" plot-wise but the action scenes (the first one with Blackout is amazing) gave me an itch to play mech games again.

Is there anything relatively new (battletech or something else) out there?

iirc, wizards of the coast bought fasa, and hasbro bought wizards of the coast. since then, most fasa properties were shelved indefinately. which is a crying shame, since battletech will always have the makings of a good mmo and first person robot shooter.

That's a shame. The battletech universe is gigantic with loads of oppertunities for every kind of game. A MMORPG could be awesome, I assume something larger in scope than MPBT:3025 (THE reason I hate EA ever since it was canceled).

Yuppers. Latest word is that all FASA products are on ice.
Did we ever get that freaking Shadowrun game?

One of my favorite PC games...
I started the series with MW2 and played all the way to MW4 and the MechCommander series.
It's sad that they got shutdown by Microsoft.

I loved using a MadCat(Timber Wolf), and having my lancemates as Thor(Summoner), Vulture(Mad dog), and Madcats.
I always loved decking it out with that mech instructor in each game as well.

I'm a clan mech guy. The only non-clan mech I can stand using is a BushWacker.

My other gaming handle is MadCat_LE...I love that mech as well. :)
The LE comes from "Liao Elite", my old MPBT:3025 unit.

I hope Weisman does something with the series.

So...are there any other games like it?

I don't remember how long FASA was still around, but MS bought the digital rights and made FASA studios. If you remember at the time the company that had put out MW 2 before that put out several more titles but had to call them expansion packs to go with the publishing rights they owned.

After the last shadowrun game MS closed down the FASA studios. It's been awhile since MW4/MC2 and who knows if we will see another at anything representative of "soon". It's a shame though as with the increased graphic capability and gpu power we are now seeing we could have some really cool battles on different terrain other than the desert/lightly wooded we had seen before.

I'll toss my ring in the hat here, too. I've loved the BattleTech universe since it's inception as pen & paper/miniatures. I've painted many mechs in my day.

I'd love to see a mechwarrior MMO (or Shadowrun!)

Haha, I'm sure I've dropped against you a few times in MPBT 3025. And yes that game was awesome. Shame it went under before release, but I don't fully blame EA. :( I was in KoTR or something like that...House Davion. We dropped against Liao a lot but my most memorable battles were with Kurita and WD.

I've been looking for something similar as well, haven't seen anything interesting yet though. FASA Interactive officially went under earlier this year and the license is back in Weisman's hands, but I don't know if there's going to be any development on it.

Here's the intro from Mechwarrior 2 - I remember it was among the first major CD games to come out, and this was considered cutting-edge CG back then. Good times! :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvRfCJFdLnk

What a fantastic series. I LOVED Mech3, but I thought everything after that was far too arcadish, and not sim-like.

I loved the Ghost Bear's Legacy intro as well http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...UhtVqc&feature=related. I, too, would LOVE another Mech game.

As far as intros go, the MechCommander (first one) intro is quite nice.

Funny acting, but the mechs...

I think I remember that unit.
My most memorable moment (I think I wrote it somewhere) was a 3v1 against kuritans.
2 Javelins and a Jenner, I thought "what the hell" and brought a Panther for a laugh.

1st Jenner, steady aim while retreating, accurate PPC fire to the torso. Finished him off with the SRM4.
2nd, a Javelin, I manage to hit him twice with the PPC then he closes the distance and we dance around eachother. The Panther is a slow mofo but it works if you go in reverse and torso-twist to the other side. Down he goes.
3rd guy, the other Javelin managed to get close without me hitting him. 2 PPC shots and he blasts my arm off. Running around wildly and using jumpjets I manage to kill him with my SRM4...
I told them it was a good fight and took a break as my hands were shaking.

KODIAK BASE!! KOOODDDIAAAK!!!!!!!! *splat*

God... Does Mech Commander 2 work under Vista 64?

As far as the Mech games go, Mechwarrior 3 was by far the best when it came to story and how the mechs/ weapons handled and worked. My favourite first person mech game.

RTS-wise, Mechcommander 1 was probably better. Story ws more interesting and "Dont THINK Mechwarrior... Find out!!!" the FMV was sensational!

I always liked big mechs with jump jets, Victor and Grasshopper FTW!

The old online Mech games were great, and way ahead of their time.

I had the pleasure of playing a linked, multi-player, sit-down mech combat sim in LA in the early/mid 90s. It was in a themed arcade that hosted a handful of dedicated pods for each game - mech games, a couple air combat sims.

I'm totally blanking the name of the place now, though, and I'm kicking myself for it.

hehe, the live acting... I always wondered why the devs felt the need to use live actors to play the Mechwarriors. Yeah, sure, I believe this 40-yr old Californian actor-waiter with a beer gut is really an expert Mech pilot battle-hardened in a future of perpetual bloody life-and-death firefights. Sure. :)

Mech3 really was brilliant. It's a shame it won't work under XP. You'd think being developed by Microsoft they'd ensure compatibility.

I liked how the lasers in mech 3 actually behaved like beams of light, instead of the star-wars-esque blasters. Other then that Mech 2/GW/Mercs had way better gameplay.

Virtual World in Pasadena :D Awesome place. There was one in Vegas, too.
