Meatloaf - I'd do anything for love

If he is saying he wont cheat, does it make sense in the context in which he says it??

I'd do anything for love, BUT I won't do that. The word BUT implies it is something he wont do in the context of love. Wouldnt AND make more sense in this case if he was saying "I would do anything for love, AND I wont do that" with "that" being cheat, lie, gimp mask, etc.

Clearly, the level of Meatloaf's profundity and rhetorical and allegorical complexity has been quite underrated.
