Measure data transfer rate?

Is there a way to check the transfer speed of my network? My nephew told me to log on here and ask. He said something about a software that loads on 2 computers and you run it and it transfers a file and measures the time and speed, etc.

Works VERY well and is very fast. Just netcps.exe -server on one machine and then netcps.exe servernamehere on the other and it will give you transfer speed
