While you were distracted by all the nonsense in other Q-States, behind Door Number 4 .....

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Just days after a South Dakota agency moved to deny her daughter’s application to become a certified real estate appraiser, Gov. Kristi Noem summoned to her office the state employee who ran the agency, the woman’s direct supervisor and the state labor secretary.

Noem’s daughter attended too.

Kassidy Peters, then 26, ultimately obtained the certification in November 2020, four months after the meeting at her mother’s office. A week after that, the labor secretary called the agency head, Sherry Bren, to demand her retirement, according to an age discrimination complaint Bren filed against the department. Bren, 70, ultimately left her job this past March after the state paid her $200,000 to withdraw the complaint.

Exactly what transpired at the July 27, 2020, meeting in the governor’s office isn’t clear. Noem declined an interview request and her office declined to answer detailed questions about the meeting.

“The Associated Press is disparaging the Governor’s daughter in order to attack the Governor politically – no wonder Americans’ trust in the media is at an all-time low,” spokesman Ian Fury said.

I bet the agency didn't even know Peters was Noem's daughter. Now imagine Joe Biden fires someone because Hunter violated some government standard and had an application rejected. We would have 24x7 coverage all the way until the mid term elections on right wing media

What a scheme. Sounds like this was all arranged with the neat distraction of age discrimination thrown in to get you off the scent trail. Secretary takes $200 k bribe to get Govs daughter her RE license.

Sounds more like they threatened her to get the license approved and then fired her anyways after doing it.

Feeling safe from accountability because you're the boss and/or have enough cash to buy your way around any "obstacles" in your way seems to be a nasty habit passed down from Trump to his Repub overlords in the states controlled by that party of theirs. Problem is one of foresight and farsightedness.

Living in the moment where the emotional allure of omnipotence overtakes a person's instinct to rely on their situational awareness for survival is living a life in backfire alley where stupid has sex with arrogance and produces a child that survived an attempt to abort it and was given Magatrump as their middle name as an honorarium.

Crap, if Gov Noem public hates on the State AG, then that automatically means the investigation is biased against Noem. That is how it worked with Trump, if he insults them it he then would always claim bias.

Kristi Noem has a bridge she’d be interested in selling....

Noem said that she was instead concerned with fixing the “broken” system governing real estate appraiser certifications, arguing that the process was inefficient and had consequently made home buying more cumbersome.

Soooo ... She did NOT pull any strings for her daughter. She just took an interest in fixing a broken system at the same time that her daughter wasn't getting certified. Okaaaaay!

If a meeting occurred with Noem, her daughter, and the head of the real estate appraiser certification board all in the same room, then Noem needs to resign. Any concerns she may have had about a "broken" certification process could have and should have been discussed without her daughter in the room.

The things that come to mind for me
1) the governor personally getting involved (as opposed to some lower level official) implies there was an ax to grind and some personal vendetta involved
2) its not that hard to get a RE license so likely her daughter is just a spoiled brat who has only gotten where she's gotten because mommy and daddy have intervened every step of the way
3) the governor herself seems to practice using threats, similarly to Cuomo. This was a low level issue and her response was to threaten a 70 year old who had nothing to do with it. It would make me thing she may not have a lot of allies in her camp.

Can't wait till Sioux Falls reaches boom town population, then SD Republicans will have no choice but to see their loss in future elections.

I do believe the daughter was trying to obtain a real estate appraiser’s license/certificate. Think I read that in SD, it’s extraordinarily hard to qualify for the appraiser’s license…like fewer than 10% of applicants manage to get it the first time thru.

Not trying to excuse the behavior at all (damned corrupt imho.)

Amazing Noem is putting her job on the line for her daughter getting a 50k a year job. She should have gotten her a government Job with more money and etc with less hassle
