I have studied several religions in detail. Islam, Christianity, Hinduism. And not through the superficial mass market books, but academic minded ones. I have come to the conclusion what you say above is a popular misconception. In fact not too long ago, the same could easily have been said about Judaism and Christianity.
Also studying the history and current events of the Middle East and South Asia helps a lot. It makes you see what are portrayed as religious causes are political ones, with deep rooted history behind it.
Yeah but their fringe way on fringe. Not state (saudi, iran, Pakistan etc) and militia controlled (ISIS) policy like in ME.
^^^ This. All of this. Exactly this.
I'd like to add that I have studied all the world's major religions (and several minor ones) at the post-undergrad level, and that my undergrad major was Poli. Sci. (in addition to English Lit.)
So . . . ummmmm . . . stand back, buddy, we're scientists!![]()

I'm still up for just backing off and letting em kill the crap out of each other and watching at this point.
I'll sound really bad, but wth, pick up some Ebola victims from Africa and stick some gold chains and rings on em and just airdrop em around the Western Iraq while they are fresh.
You don't want me in charge, the world would get ugly fast in some areas.
That ebola scare is really disappointing me. I read the book The Hot Zone and it was described to be much more dangerous. We are due for a good plague.
