If you want to win a war against an unknown enemy who can recruit more unknown enemies, you can't fight them with guns or drones, you have to fight them with propaganda.

I have studied several religions in detail. Islam, Christianity, Hinduism. And not through the superficial mass market books, but academic minded ones. I have come to the conclusion what you say above is a popular misconception. In fact not too long ago, the same could easily have been said about Judaism and Christianity.

Also studying the history and current events of the Middle East and South Asia helps a lot. It makes you see what are portrayed as religious causes are political ones, with deep rooted history behind it.

^^^ This. All of this. Exactly this.

I'd like to add that I have studied all the world's major religions (and several minor ones) at the post-undergrad level, and that my undergrad major was Poli. Sci. (in addition to English Lit.)

So . . . ummmmm . . . stand back, buddy, we're scientists! ;) :p

Yeah but their fringe way on fringe. Not state (saudi, iran, Pakistan etc) and militia controlled (ISIS) policy like in ME.

Quite the opposite actually. The main beef of Al Qaida and the various like minded organizations is that the governments of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan are pawns of the United States. That is their rallying cry, that is what gets them their recruits.

I would say that islam, violence wise, is equivalent to Roman Catholics 500 years ago during the Iquisition. But, I think islam is a superior mind virus. It continues to use intimidation to control entire countries, just now in ISIS controlled areas. Everybody must worship at a mosque and on time or you die. You could use those mafia techniques to make people say they believe in Santa Clause.. or Hitler.

The trouble is these cultures are more primitive than our own. I just saw a news show on a new god in Inida. This kid has a deformity that looks like a tail and people think he's been blessed by a monkey god. So they are now worshiping him.

Islam is the enemy of civilization and anyone that doesn't think so is a ... wait for it.... QUISLING! (that's my word).

Long live the drone program, hell fire missiles and 42 virgins for everyone.

I'm still up for just backing off and letting em kill the crap out of each other and watching at this point.

I'll sound really bad, but wth, pick up some Ebola victims from Africa and stick some gold chains and rings on em and just airdrop em around the Western Iraq while they are fresh.

You don't want me in charge, the world would get ugly fast in some areas.

That ebola scare is really disappointing me. I read the book The Hot Zone and it was described to be much more dangerous. We are due for a good plague.

If you want, you can call it the war on terror.

But it might be more accurate to just call it the forever war...

Looks to me like you have a need to look for things to dread.
Maybe a good woman or another hobby like quilting could ease that
