I want to set up some things that occur automatically on a computer. In fact, I've already done some of this, using Total Recorder, which has scheduling built in. However, I don't like the idea of keeping a machine on all the time. What are my options (if any) for turning on my computer at appointed times and turning it off at appointed times. I have digital timers, but I think I need more than that! You don't want to pull the plug on a computer, normally, although the Windows 2000 Pro SP2 I'm running will do better than Win98SE, I suppose, if you "interrupt power." Suggestions appreciated.

If your BIOS supports it, you can go into the setup and schedule a time to turn on your computer. If you are on a network, you can use Wake On Lan (if your NIC supports it). Hope that helps!

This looks very nice. It's configurable, you can schedule daily, weeky, shut down, power off, hibernate, etc. and it's free. Now I have to figure out how to set it up as a service on my system. Extensive help included, the English looks good and I'm sure it will tell me how to do it....
