Meaningless thread titles should NOT be allowed

Without reading the thread can anyone tell me what it is about?

This should be a hard fast rule like the one on adding your own comments to anything you post.

If you don?t include the actual issue at hand you risk others creating additional topics talking about the same subject.

People can choose to read the threads in P&N completey, scan through the first couple of posts or ignore them.

Unless the title/summary is a call out or trolling action, there should not need to be guidelines that have to be followed.

If a double post is created due to a meaningless original title thread, then it is up the toModerator to meger the posts, eliminating one of the threads, or lock one of the threads.

Which thread is to be locked or elimininated is up to the Moderator; possibly based on title/ content, or type of responses within the threads.

What you say makes great sense except when you merge a thread the second thread acts in the same way as a deleted thread.

I was responding to a thread that had been merged so when I hit "reply" I got the same message I would get if it had been deleted. So I assumed it had been deleted and made another post on the same subject.

Overall it just adds to the confusion.

Personally, I'm getting pissed at the number of grossly misleading thread titles

Take This one for example.

The thread title indicates an issue about terrorism, and racial profiling (dark haoir color mentioned) etc.

It's utter bullshit. It's about an obscure white chick muscian from the UK who had a work visa problem.

I wish you guys would stop this.

While I do care about terrorism prevention efforts and racism. I don't a damn about that musian and her work visa problem. It was fricken waste of my time and hella annoying.

Hi Fern ... i never visit P&N anymore - not for years ... but i can suggest that we used to have similar problems in Video ... unless you learn to speed read, i'd suggest just looking at the *author* will determine if a Topic is worth reading ... especially since so many are "regulars" there.

it worked for me for years ... some posters just have topics i already know i will not care to read by looking at their topic and noting WHO posted it. 90% success rate with good topics.
-unfortunately now - as a mod - i find my self reading a lot of junk threads i previously didn't give a click for because i have to., 🙁

Can we change the name of the Politics and News forum to just P&A ?Personal Attacks? since that seems to be more prevalent than discussion of politics or news.

Perhaps it should be re-named "No whiners allowed".

AT should make P&N a subscription only forum then abandon it. Nobody is going to change anybody's mind about anything and it is asinine to get worked up about something on an internet forum.
