Moonlight illuminate my night and my days sunray make the people say
And a vision something's missing so they're screaming out loud
Keep my feet on ground and my head in the clouds.
I'm the arrow, you're my bow, shoot me forth and I will go
And I know and I go and I go get up and go
Make me feel its for real tell me what you know.

more importantly, what does "keep my feet on the ground and my head in the clouds" mean?

[Speaker] wants to get high (acid, LSD, etc - drug of preference) (think of Lucy) but at the same time not do anything stupid :D

Does it really have to do with drugs? can't the phrase "head in the clouds" just mean being high..or a natural high? However, I do guess that head in the clouds references drugs because of the "cloudy" height...?

thanks, joedrake.

If you want the non-drug interpretation, the singer wants to stay practical and grounded in reality, but without giving up his imagination and idealism.

Haha what do I know.. the only music I listen to (Zeppelin, Hendrix, Marley, etc) is all about either drugs, Vietnam, or women :p
I guess it could be a natural high or something else, but usually drug-related songs refer to being in the sky/clouds when you are "tripping". Like the song 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds'

Hmm.. that specific line could be the [speaker] wanting to be successful in life :)music: You're gonna go far, fly high :music: ), but at the same time keep his cool and not get a corrupt mind (keep his feet on the ground and what not)

I want to know the interpretation of what it means from the song. From that verse...I can't seem to figure it out. if it has to do with drugs or not.

From 2001-2007 Matisyahu was affiliated with Chabad, which is a charismatic and Orthodox Jewish movement. This song was written in 2006 so it is safe to say it is about the Jewish concepts he had learned. He had also left the world of drugs in the mid 1990's and several of his songs preach against drugs and the drug culture.

@PHiuR "keep my feet on the ground and my head in the clouds" more specifically comes from the Chabad and Jewish teachings that stress we are to walk the 'middle way' which is to balance the fleshly (earthly) life and the spiritual life. Matisyahu is reflecting on his earlier life and how things are so different, his life, his goals, the mission he is on, the speed at which he is moving. The lyrics often had a strong Kabbalistic influence (Jewish mysticism).

After 2007, he really struggled as he left the Chabad movement and over the next few years his work still borrowed from the things he had learned. He is about to release a new album and I am hoping he is able to recapture the spark he once had.

"Head in the clouds" means being imaginative, daydreamy, etc, while "feet on the ground" means being measured in doing so. It is a common theme or dichotomy. Check out the song "Peaceful Easy Feeling" by the Eagles for a far less abstruse set of lyrics that explores this dichotomy.

This might be one of the best thread resurrections I've seen. A+ to this man.

Most of you are too young to remember Casey Kasam He could have stolen it from him.

https://www.yahoo.com/music/blogs/m...stars-sign-off-other-memorable-171927333.html

"When I signed off, I just said, 'And don't forget, keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars,'" as usual, he told the New York Times. "I just didn't want to say goodbye. Every station I was at, I never said goodbye — when I was in Detroit, Cleveland, Buffalo, Oakland, and L.A. I don't know why."

But there was inspirational intent behind the weekly signoff, which Kasem came up with when he was a local DJ in Michigan in 1956 and subsequently used for a solid half-century.

"I’m just delighted that back in 1956, I had enough foresight to recognize that if I could deliver a message that reflected my values, I would be making a pretty good contribution to young people who might be inspired by it," Kasem told Billboard in 1997.
