Meaning of Stats on website?

I checked the stats on my website and I'm a little confused as to what each category means. What category do I look at to see how many people have viewed my site? I?m assuming it the number of Visits. What would Hits mean then? Thanks for helping a noob.

Visits = number of sessions per unique IP.
Sites = ?
Kbytes = total kilobytes transferred (upload and download? - likely both)
Pages = total pages viewed
Files = total files viewed
Hits = ?

"Hits" can be defined many ways, depending on what you're marketing.

Many times, a "hit" is a request for a resource. So if I visit your page, then hit refresh, that's two hits. Then, sometimes, if you have a .jpg there, since my browser has to request the .jpg, some people count that as a hit, too.

Guess what definition is used if you're paying per hit...

I don't use any software. It's part of the service of my web hosting provider. Essentially it's just a link that's part of my domain name and all the stats are listed there.

Example: blahblahblah.com/stats

Thanks for that bit of info. So that would explain why hits is much higher than the number of visits.

Visits - The total number of DIFFERENT visitors
Sites = Give us an example of what is listed here. Possibly sites that people came from to here.
Kbytes = could be either or both, but unless you have a large site, download won't be much because they're mostly just requests for files, assuming your just doing a basic site
pages - Total number of pages viewed, as in if you have 5 pages, and 10 people came and looked at EVERY page, you'd have 250 page views
Files - Should be similar to above, but I haven't ever seen/used it
Hits - Can be taken many different ways, including: If page 1 has 2 images, it will create 3 hits, one for the page, and one for each of the images. This depends on many things.

Also, have you contacted your host about this?

From what you've described, it's probably Webaliser - same as my site uses. This page explains what everything means :)

His web host I8K.net doesn't appear to have a working web site.

However CapeCoralPC.com does.
