I guess a better question would be, what are the five horizons?

But seriously, a great song. Google found this unfounded opinion:

"I think Eddie's five gorizons are the five senses, so that the song would mean everything thing he touched, tasted, spoke, heard, or smelt, had to do with her, which would fit the song meaning, i.e. an artist had a girl he loved deeply but she left him and now he cannot do anything good (such as painting) without thinking of her and becomming depressed"

that may be, but it seems there was a different meaning. A more literal one perhaps.

Well, there are apparently five soil levels called "horizons" but for viewpoints / navigation there is only one horizon. There are four compass points and in many myths there are then four winds, forces, or puffins of destiny each assigned to a compass point.

In other words, he made the term up, probably from either the four compass points (plus straight up) or the five senses.
